CHRISTMAS CUP 2020

The annual SK Ballers Charity Christmas Cup took place on Monday 21st December, with 11 teams taking part to raise money for MIND on a cold, damp winter evening. Here’s how it went…

GROUP A

At the halfway point of Group A, it was apparent that qualification for the semi finals was going to come down to 4 of the 6 teams, as Holland FC and Phantom Brailians failed to pick up a point from their first three games. The McMuffin Men and Sale Madrid had taken early control of the group, with McMuffin Men beating RNE Albion Blue 1-0 in the opening game, and Sale Madrid beating Stroke Titty 3-0 in their second game. RNE remained in contention with a 1-0 win that effectively ended Stroke’s hopes, before McMuffin Men ran out surprisingly comfortable 3-0 winners over Sale to take a firm grip on the group and confirm their qualification. The second qualification spot came down to RNE and Sale, and Sale clinched their spot in the semis with a 3-1 win. All McMuffin Men had to do to top the group was avoid defeat in their final game with Stroke, and they just about did it as they played out a 1-1 draw.

GROUP B

Group B never seemed as straightforward, despite Buttner Ballers getting off to a flyer with a 4-0 win over Workies Bogs in the opening game. RNE Albion Purples took control with a pair of 1-0 wins, against Blue Riz and Ballers, before Blue Riz pulled off a surprise, beating fellow Tuesday league side and current Champions Deportivo La Corona 1-0 to keep themselves in the running. Workies Bogs were out after they lost their third game, 2-0 to RNE, while Ballers got back in contention with a 2-0 win over Blue Riz, which dented their chances of progressing. Deportivo found some form to shock RNE with a 2-1 win to give themselves a chance of making the semis, but they ended as they were beaten 1-0 by Ballers in the final game which saw Ballers top the group on goal difference.

Qualifiers:

2nd RNE Albion Purples

SEMI-FINALS & FINAL

Having kept things tight throughout most of their group games, it was no surprise that RNE Albion Purples were involved in a tight semi final against Group A winners The McMuffin Men. Having gone through the group stages unbeaten, McMuffin Men stumbled in their first knockout game, as RNE ran out 1-0 winners. Sale Madrid and Buttner Ballers are fairly familiar with each other, having faced off in the Monday league on a couple of occasions. Both of those full length games have resulted in draws, so we expected this to be tight, but Buttner Ballers adapted to the shorter format of the game to pick up a 2-0 win.

So to the final and it was Ballers who started the better and went 1-0 up as they attempted to reverse the result from the group stages against Purples, but they couldn’t see it out as Albion hit back to level things up and take the final to penalites. In the shootout it was Albion who held their nerve as two misses from Buttner Ballers handed them a 2-1 victory and the Christmas Cup trophy.

WINNERS: RNE ALBION PURPLES

Obviously the tournament is secondary to the money raised for charity, and we’re pleased to announce that the tournament cleared £340.18 which will be donated to MIND at the end of what has been a very difficult year for many, many people.

NEW REDDISH LEAGUES STARTING SOON

A thoroughly successful first week out of lockdown is out of the way, and we have new leagues starting up in the next few weeks for anyone looking to sign up a new team or bring an old team out of retirement…

NEW SUNDAY LEAGUE STARTS 9TH AUGUST

Our biggest league night starts another new season in early August, and with pitch space almost limitless we can always find space for new teams to expand the league.

We have numerous options to incorporate teams in the first couple of weeks of the season, so if you miss the start date don’t let it stop you getting in touch to see what we can do.

Earliest games kick off at 4.30pm with latest games starting at 8.30pm, but if you struggle for later or earlier games we will do what we cna to accommodate any requirements.

NEW WEDNESDAY LEAGUE STARTS 19TH AUGUST

A bit more time to gather the troops for this one! Our Wednesday evening league is ideal for those teams who would like a fixed later kick off time each week. Our Wednesday league is one division with all games kicking off at 9pm every week, and we currently have ONE SPACE AVAILABLE for a lucky new team. We can squeeze a ‘pre-season’ friendly in on Wednesday 12th for teams who want to limber up ahead of the start of the new campaign.

All league games are 50 minutes long, priced at £5 per player, per game.

Christmas Cup 2!

We didn’t even get chance to advertise the first Christmas Cup tournament on here before it was full!

With the first tournament, in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust taking place on Monday 23rd December, we are toying with the idea of running a second Christmas Cup a week later, on Monday 30th December at 7pm.

All cleared proceeds will be donated to a nominated charity, with the chosen charity for the second event still to be clarified.

In order to make it a viable option, we need teams… You can dictate whether we do it or not by letting us know you want to take part.

If we get the interest we will make it official within the next week, so to force our hand, get in touch.

BRAND NEW SUNDAY LEAGUE – THE FORMAT

We’ve had a little play with the format in the Sunday league in recent seasons in an attempt to accommodate all teams who wanted to take part while also attempting to expand the league where we can.

At times this has meant we have had some divisions containing 6 teams, playing each other twice, while others have contained 8 teams, with the division being cut in half after everyone had played each other once. Both of these formats meant that the season remained at 10 weeks in length, but to be honest it started getting quite messy last season.

The other issue we have is that with kick off times that vary from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, we have a number of teams who want / can only do early games, while others only want / can do later ones. Having these teams in the same division can cause nightmares…

So, here’s our plan for the new season:

DIVISION SIZE

The 8 team division experiment is OVER. We are going to limit the Sunday league to 4 divisions of 6 going forward, unless we have an influx of teams that could make up an entire extra division.

KICK OFF TIME ISSUES

We think we’re being dead clever here… Of the 4 divisions we currently have, the top division will be the top division, the bottom division will be the bottom division and the teams in those divisions will still have to play the variety of kick off times (though we will do what we can to accommodate). The two divisions in the middle will effectively become two ‘Championships.’ One of these Championships will primarily have earlier games, the other will primarily have later games. This won’t be an exact science, but will only be used to try and accommodate those teams that specifically struggle for the earlier or later games. This will make it a lot easier for us to schedule games in general, but also easier for us to give the teams what they want.

NEW REDDISH LEAGUES STARTING IN SEPTEMBER

It’s never nice to have to think of another summer being over, but as the darker nights start to set in we think this could be a perfect time to sign up to an Autumn of football!

We have three of our existing Reddish leagues restarting in September, so here are your options for starting up in the next few weeks.

SUNDAY

Our biggest league night starts another new season on 22nd September, with minimal spaces for new or returning teams. We’ve played with the format a little in recent seasons in an attempt to find a way to increase the number of teams we can accommodate, but this season we will be going back to the standard 4 divisions of 6, meaning 24 is the maximum number of spaces available. At last count we currently had 23 teams, so there’s no time for messing around…

Sunday evening games kick off between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, but we will always try our best to accomodate teams who have issues with the earlier or later kick off times. Feel free to ask…

MONDAY

The very next day, the 23rd September, the new Monday league will ge getting underway, and like Sunday there is currently only one space to be had. The option we have with the Monday league is to ‘overfill’ both divisions with an extra team, so we can find a couple more spaces if the demand is there. Games on a Monday kick off at either 8pm or 9pm.

WEDNESDAY

Barring any teams signing up late, it looks like the new Wednesday league will be kicking off on 12th September. The Reddish Wednesday league has always been a model of consistency, but a couple of recent drop outs mean we have a couple of spaces to fill before the new season kicks off. If you like the idea of one set kick off time every week, nice and late to help avoid any work related issues, the 9pm Wednesday kick offs could be for you!

All of our Reddish league games are 50 minutes long, with games priced at £5 per player.

BRAND NEW WOODLEY WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Following the successful start to our Thursday league takeover at Stockport Sports Village, attention now turns to getting a Wednesday league off the ground.

We’ll be hosting a one off tournament on Wednesday 31st July, with the league set to start on 7th August.

One off friendly games are available on 24th July, so if you want to give it a go with a one off game before deciding whether to commit, get in touch asap.

When the league starts, here’s how things are going to work:

40 minute games

£5 per player, per game

Kick offs between 7pm and 9.15pm

Weekly Round Up – 12th July 2019

LEAGUE NEWS

BRAND NEW LEAGUE STARTING SOON!

Fresh off the back of our successful start at Stockport Sports Village with a currently full Thursday league, we’ll be starting a BRAND NEW WEDNESDAY LEAGUE at the same venue before the end of the month.

Our current Reddish Tuesday league will also be restarting this month, on 23rd July. We currently have a couple of spaces for any new or returning teams

Holidays have also had a minor impact on some of our other nights, with spaces currently available in our Reddish Sunday and Thursday leagues.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

A couple of cracking games took place in the Sunday top flight, and Duno are the new leaders after an impressive 9-5 win over Wilmslow Whoppers. Caylem Bateson scored 4 of their goals as both teams put on a great spectacle, despite both teams missing a couple of regulars. Gangs Of Dwight Yorke are level on points with Duno after an extremely hard fought 7-6 win over Kipsta Cobras. Callum Jones’ two late goals to make it three for him, turned a 6-5 deficit into a narrow win. Ray Donnelly also grabbed three while there were two goals each from Mike Pinder and Kieran Mills for Kipsta.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Sevilla Lacatalent are treading dangerously in their efforts to avoid the top flight, as they made it three wins out of three with a 7-2 victory over Nice Buns B, as Tom Jackson scored 4. Bangers & Pash sneak into the top 4 this week after a 10-7 win over The McMuffin Men, with Rhys Clooney scoring 5 and Chris Carroll three. Joel Walmsley is normally more of a destructive influence for McMuffin’s, but he top scored for them with three in reply in a losing cause. Netsix & Chill picked up their first points of the season as they comfortably beat FC AOTS 12-6. Kai Lawless scored 7 of Netsix 12 goals, all the others being shared out, while Adam Duty scored 4 for AOT’s.

LEAGUE ONE

Just the one game took place in the third tier this week, and it saw SK Six pick up an impressive 6-1 win over The Veterans. It was doubles all round as Harry Bridge, Max Blunsten Shepherd and Steve Blunsten all claimed two.

LEAGUE TWO

Why So Serious? dropped their first Ballers points this week as they were somewhat surprisingly held to a 6-6 draw by Step Brothers. Ben Murphy scored two form Serious?, but that was matched by two from Tom Cioffi as The Brotherhood were only denied a win by a late Scott Williams goal. Deportivo Lack Of Talent joined Serious? on 7 points as they won another close game, 3-1 against Fat Boys Run Wild. Mike Devitt, Nathan Wilkinson and Rob Parker scored the goals as Deportivo go third.

FRIENDLIES

James Cresswell scored three of Team Tom‘s goals in a 4-1 win over FC Stront Bakken, while bottom divison Athletico Pathetico picked up an encouraging 5-5 draw with Championship side Stockport Eagles. Paul Barnes scored 4 for Pathetico, while Paul Waugh and Michael Winn claimed two each for Eagles.

MONDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

A couple of top division games survived the holiday disruptions this week, and Kinky Slipper took advantage of Expected Toulouse’s absence to go top as 5 first half goals without reply helped them to a 6-1 win over Nice Buns. Joe Lailey top scored with three as the goals were shared around. There looked to be a shock on the cards in the other game as Wheel Madrid went 3-1 up against Love Of Lacey FC, who were defending a 100% start to the season. The wheels quickly fell off though, and a 5-3 half time Lacey lead became a 10-3 final score. The Singleton’s provided 7 of their 10 goals, Jason scoring 4 and Chris three, with Josh Welsh scoring all of Madrid’s goals.

CHAMPIONSHIP

After suffering defeat to Ctrl Alt De Ligt a few weeks ago, Trent The Fish have taken control of the Championship after a surprisingly comfortable 14-5 win over second placed Phantom Brazilians, with Shane Bridges scoring 5, while there was three each for Nathan Wilkinson and Lewis Arden. Ctrl Alt De Ligt had slipped up after their impressive win over Trent, but they got back to winning ways this week, beating Cheadle FC 9-4. It was hat tricks from Chris Murray and Fidelis Eberegbe that edged the game in De Ligt’s favour, with Tom Hoyland claiming three in reply for Cheadle.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

An uncharacteristically quiet night in the Tuesday league as we head towards the conclusion of another season saw only one league game played, plus a friendly. The league game was a good one as Rusholme Ruffians looked to bounce back from their first defeat last week and reclaim top spot from Michu At De Gea Ba. Paul Atherton’s two goals in the final 5 minutes gave them a comeback 3-2 win. 5 goals in the final 10 minutes did the majority of the damage as Leavemyarsealona beat Club Tropicana 11-5. Andrew Cochran scored three of Tropicana’s 5, but that was matched by a treble from Layton Smith, with two goals each from Marshall Lally, Chris Smith and Jamie Stokes.

THE NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE KICKS OFF ON 23RD JULY – SPACES AVAILABLE!

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

We could have another potential title contender joining us this season, as Sevilla Lacatalent made it two wins out of two with a hard fought 8-3 win over a stubborn Exeter Gently team. Two goals each from Tom Jackson, Sam Melling and Kyle Hines helped them get over the line in the end after three goals from Dan Williams had kept Exeter in the race until well into the second period. Wellspring will still be the team to beat this season and they got off to a flying start, beating Out Of Shape FC 12-0. Shane Bridges scored 5 and Dan Arnold three as the champs did their goal difference some early good.

THURSDAY LEAGUE

WOODLEY

We’re getting there with this new Thursday league, with 5 games played in the second week of the season. Hyde FC are the very early leaders after late doubles from Jordan Hutchinson and Chris Sheridan gave them a 6-2 win over Gareth Lager Sometimes Cider, with Louis Isaacs scoring both Gareth’s goals. Longue Yids are the only other team with two wins from two games as they snatched a later winner to beat High Lane FC 8-7. The Yids had lead 6-0 at one point, but despite Ben Reeves 5 goals for them it took a last gasp winner from Stephen Barnes to give them the points after High Lane had scored 7 goals in 14 minutes to claw their way back in. Reigning champions Adswood Reformed got their season off and running with a 6-3 win over new boys Dreamscape Gardens FC, with Kieran Gally claiming a hat trick, while FC 6 or 7 are also off and running at the second attempt as they beat B&B 1997 4-1, with Ryan Hurst bagging three. Sporting Keumgang also picked up their first points of the season, leaving Soccer PM pointless after two games as Ryan Gordon scored both goals in a hard fought 2-1 win.

Just the one game at Reddish this week, and it was a pretty one sided one as Nigel De Mong kept up their title hopes with a 12-0 win over Ambition FC, with Harry Arden claiming 7 goals and Layton Smith 4.

LEAGUE NEWS

SK Ballers are now the official league administrators for the 6-a-side leagues down at Stockport Sports Village, and with an existing Thursday league in place we will now look to add in a BRAND NEW WEDNESDAY EVENING LEAGUE. This new league will start on 31st July, with a tournament the week before on the 24th. Friendlies are available over the next two Wednesdays for any teams who might want to ease themselves into it, so if this is of any interest to you, get in touch asap!

SUNDAY LEAGUE

It was a Sunday league of two halves this week as the top two divisions imploded while there was a decent turnout in the lower leagues

PREMIERSHIP

Not a single, solitary game survived in the top division. That’s a good start…

CHAMPIONSHIP

A whopping one game went ahead in the second tier, but it wasn’t much of a match as a suspiciously strong looking Stockport Eagles hammered Netsix & Chill 13-0. Michael Winn top scored with 4, while there was three from Paul Waugh and doubles from Ray Donnelly and Lee Clarke.

LEAGUE ONE

It’s already looking like 2 Goals 1 Schlupp have gone in at a lower level than they needed to, as a team made up of players who generally play at a higher level picked up another win, easing to an 8-5 victory over The Veterans, with Michael Winn claiming another three. Team Tom are the only other unbeaten team in this division, and they played out a tight 3-3 draw with Polish Army as James Cresswell and Bania scored two each for either team. Inter Your Sister remain pointless (some might say in more ways than one!) after a third straight defeat, as SK Six picked up their first win outside of the bottom division. Harry Bridge scored 4 of their goals in a 6-3 win, and hopefully we’ll remember to give them last seasons trophies this weekend!

LEAGUE TWO

Why So Serious? are the early leaders as they ended Athletico Pathetico‘s 100% start to the season with a comfortable 14-5 win. Ben Murphy and Tom Ratcliffe scored 5 each, with Jake Smallwood’s 5 in reply for Athletico just in consolation. Deportivo Lack Of Talent are up to third but it took 36 minutes for the deadlock to be broken in their game with CA FC. Mike Devitt’s opening goal were followed by two more as a very tight game ended in a 3-0 win. There was another clean sheet in the Fat Boys Run Wild v FC Stront Bakken game this week, with the Fat Lads failing to breach the Bucket Boys defence as Bakken picked up a comfortable 5-0 win to go 4th.

MONDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

The top division looks like it could be a belter this season, with two more tight games taking place this week. Current champs Expected Toulouse took on Kinky Slipper in a belter, and there was never more than one goal in it as Wesley Harney’s Kinky hat trick and a double for Joe Roche from Toulouse meant we ended with a 4-4 draw, as Harney’s late penalty miss cost them the win. Love Of Lacey FC got off to a good start against Grand Street Wanderers this week, going two up in the first 6 minutes. Grand Street stuck at it, but Demell Cumberbatch’s second goal 10 minutes from time helped them to a 4-2 win that sees them maintain their 100% record.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Phantom Brazilians have been out of the top flight for a couple of seasons now, having seemingly never having been able to do enough for us to relegate them! They are back on top of the Championship in the early stages after a ridiculous 19-1 win over Chief & Indians. Only having 6 players caught up with Chiefs as injuries saw them concede 12 second half goals without reply. Daniel Clayton scored 6 and Gaz Wharton 5 in the most one sided of games. Trent The Fish will be there or there abouts at the end of the season, and they picked up another win to end Cheadle FC‘s decent recent run. Shane Bridges and Michael Winn scored two each in a 6-1 victory.

FRIENDLIES

An understrength Ctrl Alt De Ligt were up for a game against Premiership Nice Buns, and the result went the way we’d expect with Tom Hall top scoring with three in an 8-2 win.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

Another week, another potential shift in the title race as Speshull City took on Snorting Lisbon, who were in the middle of an indifferent patch of form having initially burst onto the scene a couple of months ago. Snorting were comfortable winners the last time these two met, but Speshull were always able to keep them at arms length this wee, with two goals each from Niall Brooks, Jamie Stokes and Dean Simpson enough to help them to a 7-5 win that takes them top. Club Tropicana have run back into a bit of form recently, and they were involved in a cracking game with Sons FC this week. Danny Moss scored 4 for Tropicana, but three from James Raynor and a double from Reece Jeffs meant the points were shared in a 6-6 draw.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Despite getting hammered in a friendly last night, Michu At Dea Gea Ba are the new leaders of the Championship after Rusholme Ruffians suffered a shock first defeat, 3-2 at the hands of Barcabona, who they beat 11-2 just a few weeks ago. Alex Federico’s double for the former leaders wasn’t enough as Kyle Poole, Layton Smith and Kubi Guc capped a second half comeback from 2-0 down to claim their second win. Stroke Titty didn’t even have the comfort of a Conor Dolan consolation goal this week, as Jay Willingham’s three goals weren’t enough to stop them going down to a 6-4 defeat to Leavemyarsealona, with Jamie Stokes claiming a couple for them.

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The title was going to either Wellspring or New Team this week, with Wellspring just needing to avoid defeat to hold onto their crown. They edged the first half and lead 2-1 at the break, but they took complete control in the second period as 4 goals from Mike Cocks helped them to a surprisingly comfortable 9-2 win and a second (maybe third) straight title. While they were busy finishing off the previous season, Sevilla Lacatalent and Stockport Eagles got their new season underway. Eagles started strongly and lead 4-3 at the break, but it was an entirely different story in the second half as Sevilla roared back with Tom Jackson claiming 6 goals as they turned things around to pick up a 10-4 win.

THURSDAY LEAGUE

WOODLEY

The Ballers take over at Stockport Sports Village finally took place last night, with the first game of the brand new Thursday league. The biggest win of the night came when two new teams faced off, as Gareth Lager Sometimes Cider beat High Lane FC 6-0 with Elliott Jones grabbing a hat trick. B&B 1997 also kept a clean sheet as they beat the 5 men of Soccer PM 3-0. Shaun Harding scored and claimed the MOTM award as B&B spread the goals around. The opening game of the night was a good one as Longue Yids picked up a hard fought opening day win, beating Sporting Keumgang 4-2. Steven Chipchase claimed three for Yids, with Jordan Conway scoring a brace in reply for Sporting. Long standing Hyde FC‘s first game was a goal fest against new / returning side FC 6 or 7. Ryan Hurst’s 4 goals for FC weren’t enough for them to claim a point from their opening game as Gene Hoole scored three and Chris Sheridan two as Hyde won a cracking game 7-6, though the individual highlight of the game was probably Craig Council’s goal from inside his own half.

Longue Yids stopped on to give last season’s champions Adswood Reformed a game, but they might have wished they hadn’t as it was hat tricks all round for John Holt, Dan Sowter, Dane Wood and Liam Longford as Adswood ran out 14-5 winners.

REDDISH

The only game of the night in the Reddish Thursday league was a belter as the two teams with a 100% record went head to head. Xavi Dodgers looked to have the game sewn up at the break as two goals from Michael Winn and one from Lee Clarke saw them lead 3-0 against Nigel De Mong, Nigel flew out of the traps at the start of the sedon period though, and 4 goals in 10 minutes, two from Harry Arden, saw them go 4-3 up with 14 to play. They couldn’t quite hold on though, as Ray Donnelly’s late equiliser ended both sides 100% records, with both teams remaining unbeaten.

We figure this is the best way of doing it…

As Ballers prepares to take over the running of the leagues down at Stockport Sports Village, we would like to take this opportunity to give our new teams a little bit of an insight as to how we do things.

We are aware that another operator had, until fairly recently, been running the leagues down there and doing it their way, but the first significant difference between what they were offering compared to us is that ours is being done in partnership with Life Leisure, rather than on a fixed pitch hire agreement. This gives us greater flexibility that we can pass on down to the teams as we don’t have the financial burden of having pitch fees to pay, even if teams don’t play. This means that we are able to:

  • Run the leagues without asking teams to sign contracts
  • Run the leagues without having to ask the teams to pay for games they don’t play
  • Be flexible in how we arrange fixtures based around things like holidays, Champions League, Europa league etc

We’ve always ran our business with the basic idea that if we do our best to look after the teams, the money will take care of itself, so as long as you meet us half way on everything, everything will be just fine!

The key for us is communication. We will send out your kick off time, along with some other general information 3-4 days before your game, and on the day we will ask that all teams confirm by sending through a list of their players for that night’s game. These will be used to prepare the referees score cards so we can record the individual player stats for each game on the website.

WEBSITE

If you register on the website we will assign you your own profile. Once we’ve done that you can keep track of your stats including appearances, goals, MOTM’s, win % etc. You can even add a profile picture, nationality, squad number, position, height and weight (if you really want to).

All fixtures, tables and results, along with top goalscorers and the individual stats from each game will be housed on this website, and there is also a Weekly League Review where we round up each week’s action.

GAME POSTPONEMENTS

If you are ever struggling to field a side we would appreciate as much notice as possible, but a bare minimum of two hours notice if you want to hold out any hope that we can postpone the game and get it replayed. We don’t think that’s too much to ask! The more notice you can give us, the better the chances are of us sorting a game out for your opposition, and if a couple of teams in the same division cancel, our priority will be to pull a league game forward rather than asking teams to play friendlies. The general rule is that teams can postpone a maximum of two games per season, with any more than that being punishable with a forfeit defeat, but again we try and show flexibility depending on what is going on that night. We want leagues to be won or lost through games played, not forfeit wins.

NEW LEAGUES

We’re looking forward to getting started with the NEW THURSDAY LEAGUE kicking off on 4th July, and the response we’ve had for that has been encouraging, with at least 4 new teams set to join us at the last count. Our aim is to create that split in standards and go with two divisions of 6, introducing promotion and relegation.

Once the Thursday league is up and running we will be looking to get a BRAND NEW WEDNESDAY LEAGUE on the go, with 7 of the 16 spaces all potentially spoken for before we’ve really lifted a finger to get it going! Our aim is to get the league started before the end of July, with the possibility of a tournament within the next few weeks to try and bring some new teams in.

Whatever you guys can do to help us spread the word would be massively helpful. At the end of the day having full leagues means you guys get a regular game and a greater variety of opposition, so if you see us pop anything on any of our social media sites, give them a little like, share retweet or whatever.

Weekly Round Up – 21st June 2019

LEAGUE NEWS

It’s all go, with very few spaces to be had in our Reddish leagues, but plenty coming up in the BRAND NEW LEAGUES AT STOCKPORT SPORTS VILLAGE!

The new SSV Thursday league kicks off on 4th July, with a mini tournament taking place next week, the 27th June. Currently there are spaces for two new teams for when the league starts.

Once the Thursday league is sorted, we’ll be working on getting a Wednesday league off the ground. Wthout really trying, we’ve filled 4 of the 16 spaces that will be available when this league starts, so don’t stick around if it’s something that might be of interest.

As far as Reddish spaces go, it’s fairly straightforward… We currently have one space in each of our Tuesday and Thursday leagues.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

The first night of the new Sunday league was adversely affected by Father’s Day, but 8 games still took place.

PREMIERSHIP

Only one of those games took place in the top flight, as Beercalona started the defence of their title against Kipsta Cobras. Their recent form hadn’t been great, and they fell behind here as Kieran Mills scored two early goals. They quickly regained control though, and went into the break 5-2 up. Tykio Williams 5 goals ended up making the difference as the champs start off with an 8-4 win.

CHAMPIONSHIP

The McMuffin Men started life in the Championship in style, beating FC AOTS 7-2. Daniel Havern and Jayden Whittaker both scored two as the League One winners ran away with it in the final 20 minutes. Sevilla Lacatalent got off to a flyer, going into the break 5-0 up against Stockport Eagles, with Tom Jackson scoring two. Eagles made the scoreline more respectable in the second half, scoring two goals without reply, but they start the season with a defeat.

LEAGUE ONE

2 Goals 1 Schlupp may well have joined the league at a lower level than they should, as it was hat tricks all round from Ray Donnelly, Elliot Smallwood, Mark Carruthers and Wayne Reeves as they beat Polish Army 12-1 in their first league game. The other league one game played was a tighter one between two old adversaries. Inter Your Sister and The Veterans go way, way back, and their latest chapter went The Veterans way. Scott Norris scored 4 for Inter, but that was matched by Andy Carrington for The Vets, while doubles from Ryan Prestwich and Paul Atherton helped The Vets to a 9-6 win.

LEAGUE TWO

The two games played in the Sunday basement bode well for the new season as both were decided by just the one goal. 4 goals from Oliver Lloyd Baxter and three from Vincenzo Napolitano helped Athletico Pathetico to a 9-8 win over FC Stront Bakken in their first game since switching from the Monday league. Ryan Stringer scored three in reply for the Bucket Boys, but they start life back in league two with a defeat. Step Brothers are off to a winning start after they held on for a 6-5 win over Fat Boys Run Wild, with Josh Armitage scoring a brace.

MONDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

Expected Toulouse were looking to bounce back from the relative disappointment of starting the new campaign with a draw last week, against Nice Buns. From the outset there looked to be very little chance of a repeat, as the champs went 4-0 up inside the opening 9 minutes. In the end Waz Akram top scored with three, but there were doubles from Liam Mottram, Niall Hillen and Ryan Dolan as they ran out 11-2 winners to go top. Kinky Slipper were back after a few weeks off, but they were quickly back at it as every single player, including ‘keeper Luke Braden, who also picked up the man of the match award, getting on the score sheet as they beat Wheel Madrid 9-3. Wes Harney and Rob Creswell both grabbed doubles, as did Jahid Hussain for Wheel, who have started top division life with a pair of defeats, but without being disgraced.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Two of the pre-season favourites went head to head in the second week, as Ctrl Alt De Ligt took on Trent The Fish. This one was as tight as could have been expected, and it was two goals from Mike Pentland that were the difference as Ctrl Alt won a 9 goal thriller by the odd goal. This means that after two weeks they are the only team with a 100% record, which is a sign of how open this division could be, and Delph & Safety bounced back from last week’s heavy defeat to Trent to pull off a slight shock as they beat Phantom Brazilians. Matthew Tracey and Harry Vose scored twice each in an 8-4 win, with Daniel Clayton replying with a double for Phantom. Two teams who were in need of a win played out a tight game as Cheadle FC took on Chief & Indians. To be fair, this was the first time that Chiefs have realistically still been in a game heading into the final stages, but they came up short as Cheadle picked up their second win since rejoining as Evan Farrell scored all 4 of their goals in a 4-2 win.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

PREMIERSHIP

A potentially decisive result in the Tuesday Premiership title race this week, as Snorting Lisbon recovered from their first sticky spell to go top with an 8-5 win over previous leaders Gangsta’s Allardyce. Kris Fawcett scored three for Snorting, while there were doubles for Steven Bulger and James Taylor. Tom Brennan and Abdullah responded in kind for Gangsta’s, but Snorting now lead the way by a point from both Gangsta’s and Speshull City, who beat Sons FC 9-5. Luke Walker top scored with three while Jamie Stokes and Mike Bond grabbed two each, as did Logan Jeffs and ‘Own Goal’ in response for Sons. Former leaders Club Tropicana‘s title chances now look to be over, but they at least picked up their first win in 4 and leapfrogged For Fuch’s Sake into 4th place after beating them 7-5. Danny Moss, Andrew Cochran and Tom van Bergen all grabbed two, as did Danny Harwood for Fuch’s.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Rusholme Ruffians look to be a team to watch as they made it three straight wins to start Ballers life. They were 6-2 winners over Sevilla Lacatalent this week, with Alex Federico the only player to notch more than one as they spread the goals out. Tom Jackson scored both of Sevilla’s goals, but they now sit in third place after Michu At De Gea Ba just about held on for a second straight win, beating Leavemyarsealona 6-5. Adam Porter scored a hat trick for Michu, as did Scott Stokes for Leavemy, who lose their second straight game. Barcabona‘s fIrst Ballers game was in defeat to Stroke Titty just a few weeks ago, but they showed their signs of improvement to pick up a win against the same opposition this week. Layton Smith’s second of the game in the final minute gave them a 7-6 win, with Harry Arden’s hat trick a massive help. Joe Lailey grabbed three for Stroke, and Conor Dolan got two more ‘consolation’ goals, which are becoming his speciality.

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Only one league game took place this week as we tidy up the final games ahead of the start of the new season. New Team had to beat Exeter Gently to remain in contention for the title, and they just about did it as Rob Elliott scored half of their 10 goals in a 10-6 win. Jonny Taylor also grabbed three, while there were doubles from Rob Milarvie and Tom Harrison as Exeter ensured it was never a comfortable night for the title challengers. Wellspring picked up a friendly this week against new team (not THAT New Team) Stockport FC. They put up a decent fight in the opening half as two goals from Jack Hopkins helped them go into the break at 2-2. The more experienced team took charge in the second half though, as Josh Edwards scored three, Shane Bridges and Mike Cocks two each as Wellspring won 8-2. It’s never a dull game when Out Of Shape and Stockport Eagles play each other, and they served up another decent spectacle this week. It took a late goal from Ray Donnelly to salvage a 3-3 draw for Eagles after Karol had scored twice for Shapers, with Ryan McAndrew grabbing Eagles other two.

THURSDAY LEAGUE

The brand new Thursday league got started this week, and Xavi Dodgers already look like being the team to watch as they picked up a comfotable 11-4 win over last week’s tournament winners Hillgate Boys. Ray Donnelly scored 4 and Rob Piercy three, while Louis Moore scored three of Hillgate’s 4 as they drew the second half 4-4. It was just the 7-0 half time scoreline that killed them… On the other pitch, a tight, keenly contested game between Ambition FC and Nigel De Mong unfortunately had to be ended prematurely with Nigel 4-3 up, so we won’t say anything more about that right now…
