We don’t want to really be overloading people with a 20 page list of playing rules, so we’ve always stuck to the idea that our rules are basically 11-a-side rules, with no sliding and kick ins instead of throw ins.
In recent weeks we’ve had a few players questioning various aspects of the playing rules, which is fine. Following discussions with our referees we are happy to hopefully clear some of these up.
PENALTIES
The referee will place the ball down for penalties, which should be taken one referees stride (approx one metre) inside the penalty area. Players can take a maximum of two steps before striking the penalty, and it must be one fluid motion. There will be no retakes if the penalty taker fails to adhere to these rules.
KICK OFFS
From a kick off the ball can be played in any direction, it does not have to be played backwards. If you shoot and score from a kick off the goal counts, if you play the ball backwards and it goes directly into your own goal, it counts.
KICK INS
Players need to be a minimum of 6 feet away from the ball at kick ins. In order to get the ball back into play quicker the kicker may take the ball back up to 6 feet from the touchline, while all other players must remain on the pitch.
Of the ones we’ve been asked about recently this pretty much covers everything. If you have any other questions about the playing rules, feel free to ask.
