The snow arrived for real this week, meaning that Wednesday and Thursday were wiped out, while United and City took care of the Tuesday league….. Hopefully back to normal next week.
LEAGUE NEWS
Our BRAND NEW THURSDAY EVENING 5-A-SIDE LEAGUE will be kicking off at Cheadle Town FC NEXT WEEK (7th February), with ONE FINAL SPACE left to fill. Sort a team out, get yourselves registered, and come and give it a go.
Our NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE will be starting on 19th February, and we have spaces to fill to get that league back to capacity. The standard of the current teams involved is fairly even across the board, so there’s a very decent chance we may go with one big division for the new season. If the idea of a long season and a large variety of opposition appeals to you, this could be your night.
Our NEW MONDAY LEAGUE will be starting on 25th February, but it’s getting pretty close to being full as it stands, so if you want to get involved you’ll have to get onto us pretty quickly.
Sunday and Wednesday have very little to offer at the minute, so stick to the other three nights we’ve currently got spaces and we’ll be able to get you started straightaway!
Fill in a ‘JOIN A LEAGUE‘ form from the homepage for more information or to join.
SUNDAY LEAGUE
With Wilmslow Whoppers having unfortunately chosen to leave us, the path was clear for Gangs Of Dwight Yorke to take pole position in the race for the Sunday Premiership title as they faced a Beercalona who they beat 18-2 just a few weeks ago. Both teams had different line ups this week, and it quickly became apparent that a repeat of that scoreline wasn’t going to happen this week. A first half hat trick from Tom Ratcliffe and one each from Jay Ratcliffe and Luke Warburton saw Beercalona go into the break 5-3 up, with Demmell Cumberbatch and Simon Hackney scoring late in the half to keep Gangs in it after Kieran McTaggart had scored their earlier goal. Jay Ratcliffe scored two more to edge Beercalona 4 clear, but Hackney struck two in a minute to reduce the deficit to two again. As Gangs pushed forward Beercalona were able to catch them on the break and kill the game in the final 10 minutes, with Warburton scoring either side of Tom Ratcliffe’s 4th of the game to seal the win. McTaggart got his second for Gangs in the final minute, but Beercalona now join Gangs on 9 points in what could still be a decent title race.

Morning Glory finally got their first game at the second attempt, and were never likely to be let down by good ‘ol reliable Stockport Eagles. The took complete control of this one early as goals from Carl McEvoy, Scott Norris, Tom Hockley and Ben Proctor put them 4 up in the opening 6 minutes. They remained in control throughout the half, and lead by 5 at the break as Jevon Smith, Proctor, Jack Beswick and Tom Hockley all scored, with Michael Winn, Ryan McAndrew and Mark Carruthers keeping Eagles in contention. Carruthers got the first goal of the second period to reduce the lead to 4, but Beswick quickly got his second to keep Glory in control. The goals dried up for the rest of the half, maybe the long lay off caught up with Morning Glory as the match worse on, but we had a final goal burst in the last few minutes as Paul Waugh pulled two back for Eagles before Smith and Beswick completed Morning Glory’s first Ballers win.

Nice Buns B had taken top spot in the Sunday Championship, mostly as a result of Sevilla Lacatalent having opposition issues in recent weeks, and they took advantage of Polish Army being a player down for a decent chunk of this weeks game to lead 7-0 at the break, three from Paul Cheetham and two each from Jimmy Williamson and Tom Dempsey. There was little chance that the Army were going to be able to turn this one around in the second half, but they put up a better fight, especially when the 6th man turned up, but two goals from Dale Kirkham and one each from Williamson and Dempsey eased Buns to an 11-2 win, with Grzegorz and Bania getting the Army consolations.

Sevilla remain favourites for the Championship crown as they still have two games in hand and went into this week’s game with The McMuffin Men still unbeaten. That record looked under potential threat as they went into the break all square at 3-3 after Tom Jackson’s second of the game in the final minute of the half ensured they went in level. Charley Eyre, Sam Delgado and Mark Bailey had got McMuffin’s goals, with Jack son and Jake Riley grabbing the other Sevilla goals. We looked to be heading for Sevilla’s second draw of the season as the second half drifted by with no goals heading into the final 5 minutes, but the promotion hopefuls found a way to win as Riley got his second 4 minutes from time to keep them two points behind Nice Buns with a game in hand.

Who knows which Team Tom is going to turn up these days, both in terms of personnel or performance? They were taking on league leaders Fat Boys Run Wild this week, and having lead twice in the first half before being pegged back to 2-2, the answer to the question was that this was going to be a competitive Team Tom. Nicky Edwards and Curt Rothwell pegged The Tommers back twice after Aaron Crook and Liam Bancroft had twice given them the lead, but Tom Hornsby put them back in front 4 minutes after the restart. That third lead lasted just a minute as Marcus Dean leveled up again for Fat Boys, but when Carl Carter put Team Tom in front for a 4th time there was no more comebacks, and Bancroft added his second in the dying seconds to give The Toms a second consecutive impressive victory.

Fat Boys defeat gave The Veterans the chance to take top spot if they could beat Roman FC, but they fell behind early to Brandon Daisley’s third minute goal. Goals from Nathan Wilkinson, Simon Grainger and Dean Minshull put the Vets in charge half way through the period. Daisley got his second 5 minutes before the break, but Andy Carrington quickly restored The Veterans two goal lead heading into the break. The second half was much more one sided as The Veterans added 5 without reply in an 11 minute spell, with Wilkinson adding two more, Ben Mercer, Mike Devitt and Minshull the others, before Rory Gainer grabbed a late consolation goal for Roman.

Inter Your Sister’s revival came crashing down last week, so they looked to get going again against the steadily improving SK Six. That steady improvement continued into the first half of this one, as Harry Bridge and Ethan Giles put them two up inside the opening 13 minutes. Scott Norris pulled one back for Inter 7 minutes from the break, but Max Blunsten restored the SK two goal lead three minutes after the restart. Chris Murray made it 3-2 half way through the second half, and the same player earned Inter a point with their third two minutes from time. It’s now in the balance as to whether Inter will maintain a top 4 slot for the league split next week.

Deportivo Lack Of Talent needed a win over a CA FC side who are still looking for their first point to stay in contention for a top 4 spot, and 8 first half goals meant that this was more than likely. Mark Carruthers scored 4, Josh Jackson and Ashley Ellwood two apiece, and Rhys Moult the other as they lead 8-4 at the break, with Josh Jones scoring three and Lorenzo Rodriguez the other in response for CA. Carruthers added two more, with Ellwood and Moult adding further goals (one of them with an assist from ‘keeper Graham Moult who will kill us if we don’t mention it….), while CA could only muster up a late consolation from David Hughes in return.

The mini league teams were back for a second week, with FC Stront Bakken looking to follow up their strong start against Pathetico Madrid. Matt Stout, Dylan Marginarisa and Harvey Marsh got them off to a flyer with goals in the opening 8 minutes, and they were well in control at the break as Lukas Voveris and Marginarisa both scored after John Lodge had pulled one back for Pathetico. The second half was a quieter affair, with Carl Reynolds pulling another back for Pathetico, before Ryan Stringer sealed the second straight win for The Bucket Boys with a goal in the final few minutes.

The still to be named Team Sabri took on the renamed Pique Blinders (formerly Rooneytunes) looking for their first win, but it looked like it could be more of the same from last week as Jack Hodkinson and Dec Church gave Pique an early two goal lead. Sabri were back in it a couple of minutes later when Tahai scored, but Chris Sinclair immediately restored the Pique two goal lead. Tahai reduced the lead again, and it was briefly gone when Sabir leveled things up 4 minutes from the break. Hodkinson got his second a minute later to send Pique into the break in front, and though Tahai got his third to make it 4-4 two minutes after the restart, Pique seemed to have it won after Hodkinson scored two more and Ashley Taylor made it a three goal lead with 9 minutes left. Sabri weren’t willing to give it up, and late goals from Mehdi and Rida meant they had to hold on for the last couple of minutes, but they did, and picked up a second straight win to join Stront Bakken on 6 points.

Netsix & Chill faced a potential banana skin in their quest for the Premiership title against Championship leaders Diva Fever this week, and the potential upset looked on when we went into the break all square at 3-3. Jimmy Leeson got two and Ryan Saunders the other for the top division team, but Lewis Arden, John Brookes(?) and Joe Dodd ensured Diva were right in this one at the break. Chris Gee and Jimmy Leeson edged Netsix two goals up early in the second half, and though Dodd got his second to keep Diva in touch, Matty Aked, Adam Birds(?) and Leeson completed the scoring to give Netsix the chance to claim the title if they beat Phantom in their final game.

Phantom Brazilians and Nice Buns look likely to be swapping places for the new season, but they met this week with Buns looking to put the points on the board in the race for the title. They raced into a three goal lead in the opening 10 minutes as Jimmy Williamson, Tom Dempsey and Tom Hall got them off to a flyer. An own goal and a Daniel Clayton strike reduced that lead to one, but Dale Kirkham and Tom Dempsey restored the two goal lead 4 minutes before the break. Again, Phantom hit back as Clayton’s Daniel and Ryan scored in quick succession to make it 5-4, but Dempsey got his third of the half to make it a two goal lead at the break. Kirkham and Paul Cheetham added further goals in the opening three minutes of the second half to make it 8-4, but Phantom hit back again with quick goals from Ryan Clayton and Andrew Shaw, but Williamson’s second 5 minutes from time meant there was no way back. Craig Birkhead grabbed the final goal, but it couldn’t save Phantom from falling to another defeat .

Grand Street Wanderers came crashing back down to earth last week after hitting the heights against the Premiership top two, and faced a fascinating clash with new boys Pathetico Madrid who were fresh off the back of their first win last week. An open first half saw GSW twice take the lead through a pair of Jay Bebbington goals, only for Pathetico to twice come back with goals from Shane Hammond and Joe Knight, before the took the lead for the first time before the break through Hammond’s second. Paul Langan leveled things up again 4 minutes after the restart, but Pathetico were back on front through Hammond’s third 15 minutes from time. Pathetico were two up for the first time three minutes later through Tom Ottoway’s first Ballers goal, and that was the final goal in a highly competitive game between two teams who are likely to be facing each other in the top division next season.

Monday Night Albion are showing signs of finally getting a settled squad together, and picked up their first win in a while last week, but they were facing a Ruby Kazam team who were also looking for a win for the first time since early December. Jahid Hussain gave Ruby a deserved early two goal lead as they laid seige to the Albion goal, but Gaz Marsh halved the deficit just over halfway through the opening period. Early goals from Josh Welsh and Jordan Cunningham put Ruby well in control early in the second half, and they finished the game off with a late Hussain third after Albion had missed their chances to get back into it in the final 15 minutes.

Athletico Pathetico were back for a second game and played a mish mash Monday team. The random Monday team always seemed to have the edge and lead 3-2 at the break as Michael Winn scored two after Kurtes Curran’s opener, with Jake Smallwood grabbing a brace for the new team. Two Connor Atkinson goals edged the random team clear early in the second half, before the teams shared 7 goals in 9 minutes to complete the scoring. Winn got two more and Atkinson his third, while Athletico found the net firstly through Chris Brown, then a Sean O’Kane hat trick. The new boys should be decent additions to next season’s Championship.

TUESDAY LEAGUE
With very few league games remaining in the Tuesday league, and with United and City both playing this week, we couldn’t match two teams up for even a single game.
The BRAND NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE does start on 17th February though, so get in touch for details or to register……
WEDNESDAY LEAGUE
Sigh….. The snow arrived this week, making the pitch unplayable. The Wednesday league will return next week. Hopefully…..
