Recap
We’re very much at the business end of the season, and The Veterans continue to be the surprise package of the Championship season, retaining an unlikely promotion push. This week they faced off against a Kipsta Cobras team who looked destined for a return to the Premiership at the first time of asking, but who’d struggled to field a team for the last couple of weeks.
Kipsta started the stronger but fell behind in the 8th minute when Ben Mercer made the most of a mistake from the Kipsta ‘keeper to prod home the opener. An own goal a minute later drew Kipsta level, but Andy ‘Egg’ Carrington chipped the keeper from the kick off to restore The Vets lead.Dylan Lowth scored the 4th goal in 6 minutes to draw Kipsta level again half way through the period, but Paul Atherton put The Veterans in front a minute before the break.
The second half was extremely tight, with The Vets looking to hold onto their lead, and as the Kipsta pressure built, Simon Grainger broke away two minutes from time to seal the win that takes The Vets top with a week of the season left to play.
