Weekly Round Up – 18th January 2019

The second full week of 2019 and things are starting to pick up nicely following the blind panic of wondering where all the teams had gone before Christmas. At this rate our leagues will be bigger than ever by the end of the month!

LEAGUE NEWS

Our BRAND NEW THURSDAY EVENING 5-A-SIDE LEAGUE will be kicking off at Cheadle Town FC on 7th February, with a couple of spaces still available for new teams. If you want to give it a try, we will be hosting mini tournaments over the next couple of Thursdays, 24th and 31st January. Sort a team out, get yourselves registered, and come and give it a go.

Our NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE will be starting in February (actual start date will be confirmed next week), and we have spaces to fill to get that league back to capacity. The standard of the current teams involved is fairly even across the board, so there’s a very decent chance we may go with one big division for the new season. If the idea of a long season and a large variety of opposition appeals to you, this could be your night.

Our NEW MONDAY LEAGUE should also be starting at the back end of February / early March, but it’s getting pretty close to being full as it stands, so if you want to get involved you’ll have to get onto us pretty quickly.

Sunday and Wednesday have very little to offer at the minute, so stick to the other three nights we’ve currently got spaces and we’ll be able to get you started straightaway!

Fill in a ‘JOIN A LEAGUE‘ form from the homepage for more information or to join.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

With Whoppers and Gangs not playing this week, the remaining 4 Premiership teams looked to close the gap in what is a probably ‘race’ for third place. Beercalona were hammered by Gangs last week, but they got off to a decent start this week when Luke Warburton gave them a first minute lead against Stockport Eagles. This had the makings of a close game and Eagles fought back twice to go in level at 2-2 at the break with Ben Waugh and Michael Winn scoring either side of Jay Ratcliffe’s 21st minute goal. a frantic start to the second period saw 5 goals in the first 8 minutes as goals from Ryan McAndrew and Waugh for Eagles were clawed back each time by goals from Tom Ratcliffe and Warburton, before Warburton’s third put them back in front. Tom Ratcliffe’s second with 15 to play opened up a two goal lead for the first time in Beercalona’s favour, before Warburton’s 4th 8 minutes from time sealed the win.

MOM: LUKE WARBURTON (BEERCALONA)

It’s been a season of struggle just to field a team for Kipsta Cobras this time around, but they were here and ready to take on a Bangers & Pash team who could go second with a win. Another tight first half saw Kipsta recover from Chris Carroll’s 7th minute opener to lead through two goals in a minute from Mike Pinder and Kieran Mills, before an own goal meant we went in level at the break. Carroll gave Bangers an early lead again in the second half, but again a quickfire double from Pinder and James Radcliffe turned things in Kipsta’s favour. Alex Fowell looked to have rescued a point for Bangers three minutes from time, but Kipsta nicked it in the dying seconds through Mills second of the game to give Kipsta a first win of the season.

KIPSTA COBRAS 5 BANGERS & PASH 4

MOM: KIERAN MILLS (KIPSTA COBRAS)

Just a few weeks ago Sevilla Lacatalent were begging to drop into the bottom division as they were struggling, but they went into this week’s round of games top of the Championship and staring promotion to the Premiership in the face. They got off to a good start against FC AOTS this week as Daniel Ward and Tom Jackson gave them a two goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes, before Adam Atherton halved the deficit just before half time. A burst of three goals in 4 minutes left Sevilla 4 goals up with 12 minutes left, as Jake Riley got two before an own goal made it 5-1. Kibs pulled one back for AOTS, but Sevilla kept them at arms length with Jackson scoring two more either side of an Adam Duty goal for AOTS as Sevilla pick up a fairly comfortable looking victory.

Another team who are hopefully back for a run after a dodgy spell are McMuffin Men, who were looking to derail Nice Buns promotion push this week. Another game with all the makings of a close one saw Buns narrowly lead 2-1 at the break with Jimmy Williamson and Sean Cope twice putting them in front after Mark Bailey had leveled things up. McMuffin started the second half the stronger and were level with 16 minutes left as Sam Delgado finished, but they weren’t able to pick up their first point of the season as Tom Dempsey and Dale Kirkham scored in the final 10 minutes to give Nice Buns their 4th win of the season.

THE MCMUFFIN MEN 2 NICE BUNS B 4

MOM:TOM DEMPSEY (NICE BUNS B)

A full house of Championship games were completed by Step Brothers clash with Polish Army, with the first half action squeezed into 5 minutes as Polish Army turned a one goal deficit into a 2-1 lead with Sebastian and Pawel getting their goals after a magic finish from Chris Moore had put the Brotherhood on front. Moore got his second a minute after the restart to level things up again, but it was the Poles who took control with goals from Sebastian, Grzegorz and Filip, with Moore keeping Brothers in touch with his third 12 minutes from time. He scored again to keep Step Brothers in touch after Mateusz had briefly restored Poles three goal lead, but two goals in the final three minutes from Pawel and Sebastian eased the Army to their second win of the season.

STEP BROTHERS 4 POLISH ARMY 8

MOM: GRZEGORZ (POLISH ARMY)

Fat Boys Run Wild are looking to lead the way at the halfway point of the League One season, and if they wanted to stay ahead of the chasing pack they needed to pick up a win over SK Six. Aaron Donville gave them an early lead, but Max Blunsten’s equiliser meant that we looked like heading into the break all square. Donville’s second of the game just before half time gave Fay Boys the advantage, and they eased to victory as Michael Winn and Jamie Kealy scored in the final 10 minutes to give them a far from comfortable victory.

FAT BOYS RUN WILD 4 SK SIX 1

MOM: AARON DONVILLE (FAT BOYS RUN WILD)

The Veterans remain the closest contenders for top spot at the split, but technically Team Tom had a 100% record to defend heading into this week’s clash The Tommers have only actually played one game, and their ‘run’ looked to be ending as they trailed 3-0 at the break with two goals from Chris Murray either side of a Mike Devitt strike. Simon Grainger made it 4 just after the restart, and though Aaron Crook pulled one back with 20 minutes still to play, Murray’s third and Grainger’s second in the final 10 minutes gave The Veterans a comfortable victory.

TEAM TOM 1 THE VETERANS 6

MOM: DEAN MINSHULL (THE VETERANS)

A rejuvenated Inter Your Sister would have been heavy favourites going into this week’s game with Roman FC, but things don’t always go to plan and they found themselves two down inside 20 minutes as Brandon Daisley and Jamie Capper gave Roman a shock advantage at the break. Craig Johnson got Inter on the board a minute after the restart, and they turned the game on it’s head with thre goals in 4 mintes from Dave Smythe, Leigh Edwards and Brandon Byers-Wilkes. Edwards second clinched the win, with Capper’s second with 5 minutes to go just a consolation for Roman.

INTER YOUR SISTER 5 ROMAN FC 3

MOM: JOSH ALLEN (ROMAN FC)

A stronger lookind FC Stront Bakken squad were back for a second week, and set about making it a long night for CA FC as they went 3-0 up in the opening 11 minutes as Ryan Stringer, Shaun Jemison and Dan White all got on the board. Jonny Barton pulled one back for CA, but it was 4-1 by the break as Stronger got his second in the 23rd minute. The second half provided a steady stream of goals, all into the one net as Jemison and Stringer got two each, White another and Benjamin Dean the final goal having come out of net for the final few minutes, having saved a penalty earlier in the game. He’d never forgive us if we didn’t mention that…..

MOM: RYAN STRINGER (FC STRONT BAKKEN)

MONDAY LEAGUE

Fresh off the back of damaging Netsi & Chill’s Premiership title hopes last week, Grand Street Wanderers were looking to do the same again against Expected Toulouse. Toulouse were made aware of how tough the job was going to be as they went 3-1 down in the opening 12 minutes as Jay Bebbington, Joe Bowden and Matthew Moores got the GSW goals, with Ryan Dolan briefly having leveled things up after the opener. Toulouse dragged themselves level before the break as Jordan Milne scored two in the final 7 minutes of the half, but GSW took control again after the break as a freak own goal and Rob Morris’ finish opened up a two goal lead again. Dolan’s second kept Toulouse in touch, but Bebbington matched him in the scoring charts to keep GSW at arms length. Milne’s third with 10 to play meant we were in for a frantic finish, but Bebbington’s third, 4 minutes later, ended Toulouse’s hopes, and put Netsix back in control of the destiny of the Premiership title.

GRAND STREET WANDERERS 7 EXPECTED TOULOUSE 5

MOM: JAY BEBBINGTON (GRAND STREET WANDERERS)

Nice Buns and Netsix have become very familiar over the past 12 months, but hadn’t played each other for a while since Netsix went up a level, but Buns could do damage to Netsix Premiership title hopes if they could deny them a win this week. Netsix edged a close first half as James Bamgbose strike in the final minute of the half saw them go into the break 3-1 up after Charlie Williamson had leveled up for Buns after Jimmy Leeson’s early opener, with Mike Pinder edging Netsix back in front. Leeson’s second opened up a three goal lead 6 minutes after the break, but Jimmy Williamson kept Buns in the running with a goal two minutes later. Goals in quick succession from Pinder and Matty Aked took the game away from Buns, and Mike Pentland added a 7th in the final minute to take Netsix level on points with Toulouse with a game in hand.

NICE BUNS 2 NETSIX & CHILL 7

MOM: JIMMY LEESON (NETSIX & CHILL)

We won’t dwell on this one too much….. Monday Night Albion had another couple of new players in their team for this week’s game with Phantom Brazilians, and they just about managed to hold out for the first 15 minutes before 4 goals in the final 10 minutes, two from Daniel Clayton and one each from Matt Barton and Andrew Shaw, saw Phantom go into the break 4-0 up. The lack of fitness kicked in for the Albion players in the second period as Paul Wilkins scored 4, Ryan Clayton three, Shaw two and Daniel Clayton the other as they ran out 14-1 winners, with the solitary (ahem) consolation for the Albion.

MONDAY NIGHT ALBION 1 PHANTOM BRAZILIANS 14

MOM: DANIEL CLAYTON (PHANTOM BRAZILIANS)

We welcomed new boys Pathetico Madrid (not THAT one) to the Monday league this week for the first of hopefully many games, and it became evident quite early on that we had picked a good first game for them against Diva Fever. A goal late in the first half from Shane Bridges, his second of the half, ensured that Diva only trailed by one at the break after two goals from Joe and one from Ben (first names only for now) gave Pathetico a slight advantage at the break. The game turned in a three minute spell early in the second half where Diva three to turn the deficit into a two goal lead, Bridges with two more and Lewis Arden the other. Arden’s second half way through the period seemed to have confirmed the win for Diva, but Shane kept Pathetico in it with a goal two minutes later. Arden’s third, three minutes from time meant there was no way back this time for Pathetico, but Joe did complete his hat trick before Bridges capped the win for Diva in the final seconds.

MOM:SHANE BRIDGES (DIVA FEVER)

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The last time FC AOTS and Bandit Athletic met, it was a walkover 9-0 win for Bandit as they started their march towards the Championship title, but this time around was an entirely different proposition as AOTS went into the break 2-1 up after Eoghan Scott and Kibs (who’s real name we might find out one day) turned it around after Ray Donnelly had given Bandit an early lead. They didn’t hold onto that lead long after the restart as Kyle Clarke leveled two minutes in, and Bandit looked in control when Donnelly and Connor Atkinson scored within a minute half way through the period. AOTS hit back with two quick goals of their own through Charley Hutchinson and Scott sent us into the final 8 minutes at 4-4. Atkinson put Bandit back in front with 6 remaining, and AOTS resistance was broken as Donnelly and Bailey Carroll added a couple more in the final few minutes to ease Bandit to a hard fought win in a very good game.

FC AOTS 4 BANDIT ATHLETIC 7

MOM: KYLE CLARKE (BANDIT ATHLETIC)

The new look FC were back this week, with a pretty tough looking task against Michu At De Gea Ba in front of them, but they held their own in the opening period as Nicky Thirkill’s goal just before the break meant they trailed 3-2 at half time. Ryan Greenwood had given Michu an early two goal lead, and Adam Porter had restored that two goal lead after Mark had pulled one back for FC. The story so far for FC reads, ‘competitive in the first half, collapse in the second,’ and that’s what happened again this week as Greenwood added three more, Porter and Paul Rice two apiece, and Jack Jennison the other as Michu won the second half 9-0. The extra fitness of a settled team playing every week and things could quickly turn around for FC in the future.

FC 2 MICHU AT DE GEA BA 12

MOM:RYAN GREENWOOD (MICHU AT DE GEA BA)

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Wellspring were looking to make it three wins from three to start their title defence, but faced last season’s runners up Exeter Gently this week. They took early control through a Mike Devitt brace in the opening 6 minutes. Rob Milarvie pulled one back on 14 minutes, but Lewis Arden restored the Wellspring two goal lead a minute later. Devitt’s third made it 4-1 5 minutes from the break, but an own goal on the stroke of half time kept Exeter in contention. Goals from Devitt and Shane Bridges looked to have secured the victory for Wellspring in the first 5 minutes af the second period, but two goals from Tom Wood meant there was two goals in it again with 10 minutes to go. Devitt’s 5th with three minutes left meant it was definitely over this time, meaning an Exeter goal from an unnamed man in the final minute meant very little.

EXETER GENTLY 5 WELLSPRING FC 7

MOM: MIKE DEVITT (WELLSPRING FC)

Stockport Eagles were the only other team looking to make it three wins on the spin to start the season, but faced the improving Unprotected Cesc in what looked like a tough one to call. Cesc edged the first half as two Scott Norris goals either side of Ray Donnelly’s leveler for Eagles saw Cesc hold a slender 2-1 lead at the break. Carl McEvoy put them two up 5 minutes into the second half, but Eagles hit back with two goals in three  from Paul Waugh to make it 3-3 heading into the final 10 minutes. Donnelly’s second looked to have completed the Eagles comeback with 6 minutes left, but Mike Pentland and McEvoy quickly struck for Cesc to give them a narrow win.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 4 UNPROTECTED CESC 5

MOM:SCOTT NORRIS (UNPROTECTED CESC)

FC Rhino Ket were hoping for better from their second game back with us after their hammering by Eagles last week, but they quickly fell behind to Tomasz Glebiowski’s first minute goal for Out Of Shape FC. Kurtes Curran drew Rhino level on 7 minutes, and Dave Peters put them in front half way through the period. Their lead lasted just a minute as Marcin quickly drew Shape level, and they lead by two at the break as Grzesiek Tkaczyk and Karol both scored in the final minute of the half. Milosz Zawila made it a three goal lead 6 minutes after the break, but Jon Shipman gave the Ketters hope with a goal 7 minutes from time. The hope was quickly extinguished as Karol got his second a minute later as Out Of Shape pick up their first win of the season.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

With Whoppers absent this week, the rest had the chance to narrow the pretty big gap that’s been established. Gangs Of Dwight Yorke look the most likely challengers and faced Beercalona this week knowing a win would take them to within 6 points of the leaders with a game in hand. This looked highly likely in the first half as they went 5 up in the opening 16 minutes, Demell Cumberbatch with two, Callum Jones, Simon Hackney and Wayne Reeves with the others. Jay Ratcliffe got Beercalona on the board 6 minutes before the break, but it was by no means the start of a comeback as the wheels well and truly fell off for them in the second half. Cumberbatch and Hackney got 4 more each, Chris Singleton three, Reeves and Jones one each, with just the solitary Dave Seton(?) goal in reply for Beercalona who will quickly want to forget that this week happened……

BEERCALONA 2 GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE 18

MOM: DEMELL CUMBERBATCH (GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE)

It’s going to take a major effort for either Stockport Eagles or Bangers & Pash to make a push for the top two this season following their recent squad changes, but a win for either team this week would see them join Gangs on 6 points. There was only one goal in the first half, Zach Widdowson giving Bangers the edge at the break, and they seemigly had the game won when Olly McDonagh’s goal with 14 minutes left was quickly followed by an own goal to make it 3-0. This is how the score remained going into the final 5 minutes, where Ryan McAndrew’s 47th minute goal looked to have done nothing more than ruin Bangers chances of a clean sheet. When Michael Winn scored a minute later Eagles had two minutes to snatch an unlikely point, and they did so thanks to Ben Waugh’s last ditch leveler. Eagles never give up, but Bangers will be kicking themselves.

BANGERS & PASH 3 STOCKPORT EAGLES 3

MOM: OLLY MCDONAGH (BANGERS & PASH)

Sevilla Lacatalent were looking to make it 4 wins out of 4 to start their Championship promotion campaign, and faced Step Brothers in only their second game of the season. Their first was a narrow defeat, and this one looked likely to be just as close as Sevilla turned a two goal deficit into a 3-2 half time lead as Jake Riley’s double and Sam Melling’s strike turned things around after Chris Moore and Chris Sinclair had given Step Brothers the early advantage. Things turned back in the Brotherhood’s favour early in the second period as Sinclair and Josh Borthwick scored in the opening 5 minutes to give them the edge, but we were all square again with 18 to play as Melling got his second. Despite the best efforts of both teams, there were no more goals as Sevilla drop their first points of the season, while Step Brothers pick up their first.

STEP BROTHERS 4 SEVILLA LACATALENT 4

MOM: JAKE RILEY (SEVILLA LACATALENT)

Polish Army returned from their Christmas break with a game against FC AOTS that looked (as most games in this division do) too close to call. Paul Buckley and Steve Whittle gave AOTS an early two goal lead, but Bania quickly halved the deficit before Buckley restored the two goal lead with just 8 minutes on the clock. He scored again to keep them two clear after Filip had again reduced the AOTS lead, but there was only one goal in it at the break as Bania got his second 4 minutes from the whistle. There’s a slight possibilty that the festive excesses might have caught up with the Army in the second period, as AOTS ran away with it with three goals from Buckley, and two each from Adam Duty and Whittle, with just a late pair of Bania goals in response from the Poles.

FC AOTS 10 POLISH ARMY 5

MOM: PAUL BUCKLEY (FC AOTS)

With neither The Veterans or Deportivo Lack Of Talent playing this week, Fat Boys Run Wild had the chance to go three points clear at the top if they could beat Roman FC, who are still adapting to Ballers life and trying to nail down a settled squad. It all looked fairly straightforward for the promotion candidates in the first half as 4 goals from Curt Rothwell, two from Marcus Dean and one from Nicky Edards saw them lead 7-3 at the break, with Michael Winn scoring two and Kristian Anderson the other in reply for Roman. Dean and Edwards scored either side of a Bevan Hibbert goal to increase the Fat Boys lead to 5, but Roman won the second half as three late goals from Winn, against the one from Dean for Fat Boys was only enough to ensure a respectable final scoreline.

ROMAN FC 7 FAT BOYS RUN WILD 10

MOM: CURT ROTHWELL (FAT BOYS RUN WILD)

Stront Bakken were back this week, but it remains to be seen if they have a permanent league spot to go into. They took on Inter Your Sister this week who are in the process of rebuilding, but that process started well with a big win over Deportivo last week, and they lead 3-1 at the break thanks to goals from Chris Murray, Scott Norris and Craig Johnson, with Ryan Stringer grabbing Stront Bakken’s first goal on their return. Having got their team together at relatively short notice, with a couple of lads missing and no subs this week, it’s no surprise that the Bucket Boys fell away in the second half, with Leigh Edwards and Brandon Byers-Wilkes grabbing two, Dave Smythe, Johnson, Murray and Norris adding to an own goal as they ran out 12-3 winners, with Declan Matthews grabbing two in reply.

FC STRONT BAKKEN 3 INTER YOUR SISTER 12

MOM: CHRIS MURRAY (INTER YOUR SISTER)

At one point we never thought we’d see Team Tom back with us, but they were here for their first game of the season this week against SK Six. New boy Aaron Buczko got their first goal on 4 minutes, and doubled their lead on 17, before Kane Jordan pulled one back for SK before the break. Buczko looked to have given The Tommers the points with two goals in three minutes half way through the second period, but Harry Bridge pulled one back with 5 minutes remaining, and they got another through Henry Cooke, but didn’t have chance to chase a leveler as this was the last kick of the game.

SK SIX 3 TEAM TOM 4

MOM: AARON BUCZKO (TEAM TOM)

MONDAY LEAGUE

Grand Street Wanderers had the look of a team who could throw a spanner in the works of the top division title race in these cross over weeks, as they have adapted well to Ballers life after the first few weeks, and this week they faced title favourites Netsix & Chill. They got off to a flyer as Paul Langan smashed them in front in the first minute, and after Matty Aked levled things up rather fortunately in the 10th minute, the same two players exchanged goals to leave us at 2-2 7 minutes from the break. Langan added two more to his personal tally in the final 5 minutes of the half to put GSW in control, but as you can probably imagine, Netsix aren’t where they are for no reason and they hit back with goals from Aaron Campbell and James Bamgbose to make it 4-4 half way through the second period. Langan’s 5th of the game with 7 minutes remaining put GSW in front for the 4th time, and this time there was no coming back as Joe Bowden sealed victory in the last minute.

GRAND STREET WANDERERS 6 NETSIX & CHILL 4

MOM: PAUL LANGAN (GRAND STREET WANDERERS)

Netsix slip meant that Expected Toulouse could make top spot theirs with a win over Phantom Brazilians. The last time these two met it was a very one sided affair, but the early signs were that this one was going to be a little tighter as Daniel Clayton leveled for Phantom after Jordan Milne had given Toulouse an early lead. It looked like we would still be level at the break until Liam Mottram edged Toulouse in front a minute from the whistle, and we headed into the final 15 minutes with just the one goal in it. Milne and Mottram scored two in three minutes to ensure the points would be heading the Expected way, and Mottram and Niall Hillen added the gloss before Clayton grabbed a late consolation for Phantom. Expected are three points clear of Netsix, who have a game in hand.

EXPECTED TOULOUSE 6 PHANTOM BRAZILIANS 2

MOM: JORDAN MILNE (EXPECTED TOULOUSE)

The Championship top two went haed to head this week this week, with Diva Fever having the chance to open up a 7 point lead if they could beat Nice Buns. An open first half saw three goals in the opening 7 minutes as Buns lead twice through Paul Cheetham and Jimmy Williamson, with Lewis Arden scoring for Diva in between. Tom Dempsey increased the Buns lead on 15 minutes, but Nathan Wilkinson pulled one back just two minutes later. Buns lead by two at the break as Williamson got his second, but it was game on again as Joe Dodd made it 4-3 with 16 minutes left. Tom Hall edged Buns towards victory with a goal 9 minutes from time, but they were hanging on when Wilkinson got his second 5 minutes from time. They managed to see the game out, and it’s now all to play for at the Championship summit.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The remaining Premiership teams have been temporarily re-homed in the Championship as the Tuesday league approaches it’s conclusion, but both Michu At De Gea Ba and Beercalona were defeated on their first Championship appearances before Christmas. Michu had a tough one this week against league leaders Bandit Athletic, and were quickly two down as Michael Winn and Connor Atkinson got on the score sheet in the opening 16 minutes. Michu hit back before the break to take us in all square at half time, Paul Rice and Alex Brady with the goals, but Bandit took a firm grip on the game early in the second period. Atkinson got two more in the first 11 minutes of the period, either side of further goals from Dylan Feast and Kyle Clarke to put them 4 in front. Matt Barton reduced the arrears for Michu with 12 to play, but Atkinson completed the scoring late on to give Bandit an impressive win.

BANDIT ATHLETIC 7 MICHU AT DE GEA BA 3

MOM: RAY DONNELLY (BANDIT ATHLETIC)

The second of the Premiership teams, Beercalona, faced second placed Shaka, and again it was the top division side who were up against it early on as Rob Cresswell, James Radcliffe (2), Liam Paull and Jonny McAuley all scored to put Shaka 5 up just before the break. Tom Ratcliffe pulled one back on the stroke of half time, but Matthew Pownall and Paull both scored to increase the Shaka lead in the first 5 minutes of the second half. Scott Williams and Ratcliffe both scored to reduce the Shaka lead to 4 with 12 minutes still to play, but Pownall, Paull and McAuley all added to the Shaka tally in the final 8 minutes to give them a comfortable win.

SHAKA 10 BEERCALONA 3

MOM: LIAM PAULL (SHAKA)

FC AOTS faced a last minute patch up job in El Caliente, but it didn’t seem to negatively affect the mix ‘n’ match team in the first half as Nathan Wilkinson, Mike Devitt, Danny Murphy and Steve Sammons gave them the edge at the break with Adam Atherton grabbing a couple and Tom Dennerly the other for AOTS. Atherton briefly made the scoreline level in the second minute of the second half, but Fidelis Eberegbe restored Caliente’s lead a minute later. From here on in, the more settled team took control, and from the minute Atherton leveled things up with 19 minutes to play they were never behind again. Kibs put them in front with 5 minutes left, and Atherton got his 5th with a minute left to play to ease them to a hard fought victory.

FC AOTS 7 EL CALIENTE 5

MOM: ADAM ATHERTON (FC AOTS)

The new look FC were back after a few issues towards the back end of last year, and they were facing the hit and miss Ballotellitubbies. Ballo lead 4-1 at the break after Dave Murphy, Jaden Heywood, Gary Peers and Stuart Barrignton had turned things around after Nicky Thirkill had given FC the lead. FC were first on the board again in the second half as Nicky Edwards pulled one back for them with 10 minutes left to play, but Murphy kept them at arms length with his second 5 minutes later. An own goal gave FC a glimmer of hope with 11 to play, but Murphy and Jason Higginson got two each in the final 10 minutes to give the scoreline a slightly flattering look.

FC 3 BALLOTELLITUBBIES 9

MOM: DAVE MURPHY (BALLOTELLITUBBIES)

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

FC Rhino Ket made their Ballers return this week against the ever reliable Stockport Eagles, and they looked rusty from the start as two goals each from Ben Waugh, Ryan McAndrew and Mark Carruthers after a Michael Winn opener saw Eagles into the break with a 7-0 lead. They at least got off the mark in the second half, as Dave Peters and Jack Kerton got their first two goals since returning, but they did nothing to stop them from going in at the other end as Winn and McAndrew got two more, Waugh, Carruthers and Paul Waugh one each as Eagles started the new year with a comfortable win.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 14 FC RHINO KET 2

MOM: PAUL WAUGH (STOCKPORT EAGLES)

Unprotected Cesc had fun and games fielding a side this week, but the team they put out were involved in a competitive game with Out Of Shape FC, with Mike Pentland’s goal two minutes from the break the only goal of the opening half. They lost that lead in the opening minute of the second half as Tomasz Glebiowski made it 1-1, and Mariusz Koszla turned things right around with their second three minutes later. When Milosz Zawila scored with 16 minutes left to play they looked well in control, but Wes Hodkinson reduced the arrears 4 minutes later and we headed in to the final 10 minutes at 3-2. Pentland’s second 6 minutes from time made it all square again, and it was Cesc who nicked it with Danny Murphy’s last minute goal to give them their first win of the season.

? END OF YEAR INDIVIDUAL AWARDS! ?

Here’s how the individual awards will be dished out in the early part of 2019…..

PLAYER OF THE YEAR & GOLDEN BOOT: RAY DONNELLY

When you play week in, week out, regularly on a Sunday and Wednesday, while also dabbling with a bit of Monday and Tuesday, and you can hit a ball, you’re in with a chance. Ray’s total of goals for the year was double that of second placed Liam Watson, and when you play and score that often, it’s not going to go unnoticed. So it’s a golden boot and player of the year double for Ray!

GOLDEN GLOVE: WILL HUDSON

Another player who gets about the night’s, the number of clean sheets Will has kept this year is ridiculous! His 11 meant he was 8 clear of second place, and came from just 61 appearances.

Congratulations to both winners.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

SUNDAY: Despite going from the brink of promotion to the Premiership back to the bottom division, THE VETERANS stuck at it and finished in the top 10 while playing the most league games of any team this year. Fellow bottom division sides INTER YOUR SISTER and DEPORTIVO LACK OF TALENT also made the top 10, again mostly because they played more games than most. FC AOTS crashed the top 10 as their results picked up as the year went on, as they escaped the bottom division in the final season of the year.

MONDAY: PHANTOM BRAZILIANS finally had a season outside of the top flight this year for the first time, but picked up enough wins while in the Championship to finish the year in the top 5 having played the most games. We lost PATHETICO MADRID towards the end of the year, but they pick up a top 10 spot despite a goal difference of -111! Hopefully we’ll see them back in our leagues in 2019….

TUESDAY: BEERCALONA had a very slow start having joined us this year, but a steady improvement saw them spend a season in the Premiership, and they picked up enough points to finish third overall. SHAKA also had an up and down year, but their massive squad helped them to play and win enough games to finish second.

WEDNESDAY: If they hadn’t moved to Tuesday for the extra challenge, MICHU AT DE GEA BA probably would have won this one, after picking up the first two title of the year. EXETER GENTLY‘s improvement through the year saw them finish second in the final season of the year, and second in the overall league table, while OUT OF SHAPE FC (formerly Magpie FC) played more games than anyone else, but they could only finish 6th overall.

And then, finally, there’s WELLSPRING, who appear in none of the top 10 lists, despite having a pretty good year. They shifted between nights a bit too much to play enough games to make any top 10, but they also had lads who would come in at the drop of a hat to help other teams out, and without teams and lads like that we wouldn’t be here!

 AND FINALLY….!

We’ve made it through another year!

We head into 2019 with high hopes that Ballers can continue to grow, that we can keep coming up with new ideas to keep things fresh and give more back to the customers, and that we can hopefully keep doing more things right than wrong. We’ll always try…..

A massive thanks to all teams who’ve taken part. The biggest portion of the thanks goes to those who’ve been with us all / most of the year, but anyone who has taken part has helped us keep ticking along. If you’re not currently playing we’ll hopefully see you back early in the new year.

As always, we couldn’t have done it without the support from John and everyone at Reddish North End. We like to think that we have a mutually beneficial relationship, but the deal they do for us allows us to keep the cost to the customer at a reasonable level, and the trust they show in us to look after their facility is appreciated.

And finally, we couldn’t do it without the necessary evil that are the referees, so many, many thanks to Steve, Matt, Callum and Tom. Finally (finally), thanks to Rach and Hayley for taking some of the weight and allowing me to spend time wandering around the pitches pretending that what I’m doing is actually work.

Whatever you are doing this new years eve, have a good one, stay safe, and we’ll see you in 2019!

Weekly Round Up – 21st December 2018

The final weekly round up of a pretty darn good 2018 shouldn’t take as long to write as you’d normally expect, with some people finding better things to do in the run up to Christmas and in a week where United played Liverpool before subsequently losing their manager. No such worries for most of the guys who run their Ballers teams. For now….

LEAGUE NEWS

As we head into 2019, we would hope and expect a lot of people who aren’t currently playing to get back into it. As it turns out, we can probably find spaces for new and returning teams in pretty much all of our league nights!

SUNDAY: Currently, technically full, but as we reduced the capacity due to the time of year, we would hope to quickly add new teams into the league early in 2019

MONDAY: Spaces currently available with the new league starting in early 2019

TUESDAY: Spaces currently available with the new league starting in early 2019

WEDNESDAY: One single space available. First in gets it!

Wilmslow Whoppers took a few games to settle into Ballers life last season, but they look like they are going to be tough to dethrone in their second season after a solid opening day win over Gangs Of Dwight Yorke. The new look Bangers & Pash got off to a winning start last week but were up against it early on here despite Zach Widdowson putting them in front in the second minute. 4 goals each from Liam Delaney and Olly Ford, along with another from Tom Ratican ensured that Whoppers lead 9-2 at the break, with just a Rory Kelly in reply for Bangers. With the game effectively won, the second half was closer in terms of scoreline, but Delaney and Ford added two more each, Ratican and Tom Fox the others, while Chris Carroll got two, Widdowson and Olly McDonagh the replies for Bangers.

WILMSLOW WHOPPERS 15 BANGERS & PASH 6

MOM: LIAM DELANEY (WILMSLOW WHOPPERS)

Stockport Eagles had an absolute ‘mare this week, both in terms of a struggle for numbers and getting those numbers to turn up. When that happens, a wounded Gangs Of Dwight Yorke is probably not the team you want to be playing, and so it proved. We won’t dwell on this one too much as it can’t have been much fun for anyone, but (from the top down….) Ray Donnelly scored 6 against his former side, Aden Jones 5, Callum Jones and Chris Singelton three each, Wayne Reeves got a brace, and an own goal completed the scoring as Michael Winn and Shaun Mather scored two apiece as scant consolation for Eagles in a week to forget.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 4 GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE 19

MOM: CALLUM JONES (GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE)

Last season was one of struggle for Sevilla Lacatalent, so much so that they were hoping to drop down the divisions as far as they could for the new season. They went into their game with Nice Buns this week as the only team with a pair of wins from their opening couple of weeks, and lead briefly through Tom Jackson’s 10th minute goal. Jimmy Williamson leveled a minute later, and Buns looked set for a second win of the season themselves when Paul Cheetham and Williamson scored before the break. Sam Melling quickly got Sevilla back in it three minutes after the break, and we were level with 16 to play as David Witter grabbed their third. The leaders nicked it in the final 10 minutes as Dale Ward and Jake Riley scored to ease Sevilla to a third straight win and a 6 point lead in the very early stages of the season.

SEVILLA LACATALENT 5 NICE BUNS 3

MOM: JIMMY WILLIAMSON (NICE BUNS)

It could be all change for a couple of the League One teams after this week, with Inter Your Sister looking for new players after their game with Fat Boys Run Wild (apply within….). It didn’t start too badly for them this week as they lead 4-3 at the break as Steve Johnson, Phil Carroll, Craig Johnson and Brandon Byers-Wilkes got their 4, Aaron Donville, Curt Rothwell and Marcus Dean the Fat Boys replies. Dean’s second meant we were all square three minutes after the restart, and we were still level heading into the final 10 minutes before a late flurry of goals gave Fat Boys their second win of the season. An own goal edged them in front before Nicky Edwards, Kane Malone and Rothwell scored to give the Fat Boys a hard fought win.

INTER YOUR SISTER 4 FAT BOYS RUN WILD 8

MOM: KANE MALONE (FAT BOYS RUN WILD)

In friendly action, CA FC and Roman FC faced off for the second week in a row. CA, who were still without a Ballers win since joining, were looking set for that win when they lead 4-1 at half time with two goals from Lorenzo Rodriguez. They increased that three goal lead by one in the second half as they kept Roman at arms reach to pick up a first win, thanks in no small part to a solid goalkeeping display from Charlie Andrews.

CA FC 8 ROMAN FC 4

MOM: CHARLIE ANDREWS (CA FC)

TECHNICALLY THE SUNDAY LEAGUE REMAINS FULL, BUT WE WILL FIND SPACE FOR NEW TEAMS IN EARLY 2019 – GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS!

MONDAY LEAGUE

Netsix could have all but clinched the Monday Premiership title and got the cigars out before Christmas if they could see off Expected Toulouse this week and extend their unbeaten run to 14 years in the process (or however long it is, it’s been a while). Expected have really started to come together in recent weeks and looked set to end that run by going into the break 3-0 up with an own goal being followed by finishes from Liam Mottram and Scott Bennett. The run was definitely over when Mottram and Jordan Milne added to the Toulouse total within 5 minutes of the restart, before Milne made it 6 with 15 minutes to play. Netsix aren’t for quitting and they did pull a couple back through Wayne Reeves and James Bamgbose, but the unbeaten run is over and there could yet be a title fight to be had in the Premiership.

NETSIX & CHILL 2 EXPECTED TOULOUSE 6

MOM: LIAM MOTTRAM (EXPECTED TOULOUSE)

Fresh off the back of a first point of the season last week against Championship Diva Fever, Phantom Brazilians were looking to build on that against a LoL side who’ve been more miss than hit in recent weeks. Phantom quickly found themselves in the familiar position of being behind as Demell gave LoL a first minute lead, but they turned it around to lead at the break thanks to goals from Daniel Clayton and the returning Matt Barton. Demell made it Desmond two minutes after the restart, and this set the tone for a much more open second period. 2-2 quickly became 5-4 to Phantom as the goals flew in, two more for Barton and one from Calyton for Phantom, Demell and Ray Warburton and LoL with 13 minutes left to play. The wheels fell off for LoL in the final 10 minutes as they went in search of the leveler, as Clayton scored 5 more in 8 minutes as Phantom picked off their opponents at will. Anthony Pugh got what proved to be of little consolation for LoL in the final minute, and Phantom pick up their first three pointer of the season at the 5th attempt.

LOL FC 5 PHANTOM BRAZILIANS 11

MOM: DANIEL CLAYTON (PHANTOM BRAZILIANS)

As Grand Street Wanderers settle into Ballers life, they look like they could throw a spanner into the top division when the mixed division games take place. They also retain a hope of taking the Championship title, but they got off to a stinker against Ruby Kazam this week as Jordan Cunningham scored twice in the opening three minutes. They recovered throughout the half and went into the break 4-2 up as Jay Bebbington and Rob Morris drew them level before the sucker punch of two late goals from Joe Bowden gave them the half time advantage. Goals from Paul Langan and Morris in the early stages of the second period looked to have put the game out of reach, and they finished it off with Bebbington’s second late on after Cunningham had briefly given Kazam a sliver of hope.

RUBY KAZAM 3 GRAND STREET WANDERERS 7

MOM: PAUL LANGAN (GRAND STREET WANDERERS)

Monday Night Albion were back after a couple of weeks of struggle, but were facing a Diva Fever team who are showing signs of recovery after early season struggles. Diva got an early goal from Lewis Arden, but chances came and went at either end in the early stages following that, before the second Diva goal from Will Thatcher opened the floodgates. It was 6 by the break as Joe Dodd added two with Arden and Thatcher grabbing the others. Albion at least managed to stem the flow in the second half, but they couldn’t get on the board themselves as Arden and James Gandy grabbed the only goals on the period to ease Diva to a comfortable win.

DIVA FEVER 8 MONDAY NIGHT ALBION 0

MOM: JOE DODD (DIVA FEVER)

SPACES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE MONDAY LEAGUE AS WE HEAD INTO 2019 – GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS!

TUESDAY LEAGUE

A little shake up began this week as we filtered the two remaining Premiership teams into the Championship as a short term fix before the inevitable surge of new teams in the new year…… Former Premiership side Shaka came up against old foes Michu At De Gea Ba, and with the kick off time catching one of the Michu guys out, Shaka took advantage of the extra man in the first half as Marcus Issley scored two, Matthew Pownall, Dan Harwood and Liam Paull the others as they raced into a 5 goal lead inside the opening 16 minutes. Ryan Greenwood pulled a couple back before the break, and with 6 players in place for the second period it looked interesting when Paul Rice scored a minute after the restart to make it 5-3. Shaka put a stop to the comeback as Niall Carr and Paull scored to put them 4 up again heading into the final 10, and though Michael Jennison and Adam Porter reduced that lead to two again, Shaka were able to hold on for a big win.

SHAKA 7 MICHU AT DE GEA BA 5

MOM: LIAM PAULL (SHAKA)

Beercalona and FC AOTS was another top v bottom clash, and it was another one that looked like going the way of the Championship side as goals from Eoghan Scott, Kibs, Charley Hutchinson, two from Adam Atherton, along with an own goal saw them lead 6-2 at the break, with just Martin Bell and Tom Ratcliffe’s replies for Beercalona. It was a different story in the second half as Beercalona chipped away at that half time deficit, Bell and Ratcliffe reducing the lead to just two with a quarter of the game still to play. We were in for a frantic finish when Ratcliffe scored again with three minutes left, but Scott eased any nerves AOTS might have had two minutes later. Bell got his third in the dying seconds, but AOTS held on for an impressive scalp.

BEERCALONA 6 FC AOTS 7

MOM: KIBS (FC AOTS)

El Caliente continue to try and chase down the top two, and having once again thrown a last minute team together, they raced into an early 4 goal lead against Ballotellitubbies, ‘Rob’ scoring two, with Callum Jones and Nathaniel Kingsley also getting on the sheet. Dave Murphy pulled one back for Ballo, but it was 5-1 at the break as Jones got his second. He also got his third and Kingsley his second as they secured the points early in the second half, but Murphy and Andrew Barrington pulled goals back for Ballo to keep the scoreline respectable, before Kingsley got his third of the game in the final few minutes.

BALLOTELLITUBBIES 3 EL CALIENTE 8

MOM: STEVE SAMMONS (EL CALIENTE)

SPACES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE WHICH WILL KICK OFF IN FEBRUARY – GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS!

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Just one game survived the last Wednesday before Christmas, and it was an early chance for Wellspring to avenge their only defeat of last season against Unprotected Cesc. AJ gave Cesc an early lead that was quickly wiped out by Mike Devitt’s immediate reply, and his second, followed by goals from Lewis Arden and Mike Cocks put them in control approaching the break. Abou Ali pulled one back on the stroke of half time for Cesc, but Cocks second and Nathan Wilknson’s strike early in the second half put Wellspring back in control. They finished it off with Shane Bridges late goal to move Wellspring to 6 points and an early lead in their attempt to retain their title.

WELLSPRING FC 7 UNPROTECTED CESC 2

MOM: SHANE BRIDGES (WELLSPRING FC)

Weekly Round Up – 14th December 2018

And we’re back! We never wanted to stop doing this in the first place, but at the time we stopped we had some well intentioned teams who wanted to play, but who were taking up some much of our time on a weekly basis that the review kept getting pushed further and further back that it was always a desperate rush to get done and wasn’t our absolute finest work. This one will be! Get yourself a brew, put your feet up, and let the words wash over you…..

LEAGUE NEWS

This could be a really long section of the review as we try and explain everything that has changed since our last review, but as this is just the appetiser ahead of the main course, we’ll keep it brief in order to attract as much attention as possible. The guy that runs your team will get this information on a weekly basis, but if he doesn’t pass it on you might not get to see it. For example, outside of the team you play for, do you have a different group of friends or work mates who might be up for getting involved? Here’s where you could fit them in…..

First things first though, our CHARITY CHRISTMAS CUP takes place on Thursday 20th December at 7pm, with all cleared proceeds being donated to Love Of Lacey (www.loveoflacey.com for details). 11 out of the 12 spaces have already been filled, so you’d need to get in super quick of you wanted to be a part of it. Last year we did two tournaments as the first one filled up so quickly, so we could keep the 27th free if anyone wants to do it again…..

Right, actual league news…..

We are looking to get a BRAND NEW Thursday evening 5-a-side league going at Cheadle Town FC. We tried to get it started before the end of the year, but the timing wasn’t quite right, so we hope to get this started as soon as possible in 2019. We will run a couple of mini tournaments to give all prospective new teams the chance to come down and have a look at the set up before deciding if they want to commit to this new league, so for a no obligation chance to come and have a one off, get in touch.

Our brand new Tuesday league will be kicking off in January, and our Monday league will be going again in February. We currently have spaces available for new or returning teams, so to get right back on it as part of the ‘new year, new me’ brigade, let us know.

Our biggest league night still retains the possibility of getting even bigger, so if Sunday evening is your thing, let us know and we’ll try and find you a space

For more details on any of the above, or to register your team, call or text 07809252658, email [email protected], or fill in a ‘Join A League’ form from the homepage.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

The second week of the new Sunday league season saw Premiership Champions Wilmslow Whoppers in action for the first time this season, as they played a double header to make up for missing the opening week last week (not their fault….). Their first game provided a tough prospect for the top division new boys Beercalona, who picked up a decent win over Stockport Eagles last week to start their campaign. It looked extremely unlikely that they would repeat that as Whoppers raced into a 5 goal lead in the opening 8 minutes, Olly Ford scoring the 5th after Tom Ratican had grabbed 4 in the first 6 minutes. Beercalona stemmed the flow and got the next goal 7 minutes from the break through Tom Ratcliffe, but it was unlikely to be the start of a comeback as Ford added two more and Ratican his 5th before the break. Not much changed in the second half, other than the fact that a couple of different players got on the score sheet for Whoppers, with Kyle Lord and Liam Delaney grabbing a goal each, Olly Ford grabbing two more and Ratican another three. Beercalona grabbed three of their own in the second period, Tom Ratcliffe with two more and Jay Ratcliffe the other.

WILMSLOW WHOPPERS 13 BEERCALONA 4

MOM: OLLY FORD (WILMSLOW WHOPPERS)

Whoppers second game was an intriguing one as they took on Tuesday Champions Gangs Of Dwight Yorke, who’ve shifted to Sunday for the time being. Olly Ford and Josh Morrissey exchanged early goals before Whoppers took a grip as Ratican, Dan Exley and Olly Ford scored to give them a three goal lead half way through the opening period.  Simon Hackney grabbed one back 7 minutes from the break, but in a mad last few minutes of the half, Whoppers notched three of the 4 goals scored to give them a commanding 7-3 lead at the break. Tom Fox, Liam Delaney and Ford got their goals, with the returning Aiden Jones grabbing Gangs goal. Gangs started the second half well and reduced the deficit to two with goals from Jones and Hackney in the opening two minutes, but Ford and Fox restored that lead before Delaney extended it with 15 minutes left. Jones got his third a minute later, but that’s as close as they got as Ratican, Exley and Ford all scored in the final 10 minutes, with an own goal and Jones grabbing consolations for Gangs

GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE 8 WILMSLOW WHOPPERS 13

MOM: OLLY FORD (WILMSLOW WHOPPERS)

Stockport Eagles and Kipsta Cobras both suffered narrow defeats on opening night, so were both looking for their first points of the season when they faced off this week. Kyle Clarke gave Eagles a lead in the first minute, and they held that lead until 9 minutes from the break when Kieran Mills goal was the catalyst to a strong end to the half for Kipsta. Wayne Reeves put them in front a minute later, with Matty Aked and Warren Yeo adding further goals as Kipsta went into the break in comfortable control. Eagles needed to get the first goal of the second period, and Clarke got it with 19 left to play, and it was game on again when Ben Waugh made it 4-3 5 minutes later. We were on for a big finish when Ryan McAndrew leveled things up with 12 to go, and with both teams throwing everything at going for the win, Kipsta left the back door open and Clarke scored a last gasp winner to complete an impressive Eagles comeback.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 5 KIPSTA COBRAS 4

MOM: SHAUN MATHER (STOCKPORT EAGLES)

Sevilla Lacatalent and FC AOTS went into this weeks meeting after opening day wins, and a game that looked like it could be close started that way as Paul Buckley briefly gave AOTS the lead before Tom Jackson leveled up for Sevilla. Sevilla held a two goal lead at the break as Jake Riley, Sam Melling and Jackson scored a quickfire treble, with a Charley Hutchinson goal for AOTS thrown in. Daniel Wilson gave Sevilla the briefest of three goal leads before Eoghan Scott and Hutchinson sent us into the final 20 minutes with just the one goal in it at 5-4. Jackson and Riley restored the Sevilla three goal lead, but an own goal and Buckley’s second meant we went into the final 7 minutes with just one in it again. Sevilla ended up taking home the points as Wilson’s second a minute from time eased them to an 8-6 win.

SEVILLA LACATALENT 8 FC AOTS 6

MOM: SAM MELLING (SEVILLA LACATALENT)

Nice Buns won by one while Polish Army lost by one on week one in what is looking like being a highly competitive Championship season. BUns struck first in the opening minute through Jimmy Williamson, but Filip and Bania turned things the Poles way within a couple of minutes before Bania took control and added 4 more throughout the half. Buns stayed in touch as Dale Kirkham grabbed one and Tom Dempsey two to leave them two behind at the break. Pawel gave the Army a three goal lead early in the second half, but Dempsey kept Buns in it with a goal 13 minutes from time. Pawel scored again to keep the Army out of reach, and it looked over when Filip got his second with 7 minutes left to make it 9-5. Buns roared back in the final 5 minutes though, and three goals in 4 minutes, two from Dempsey and one from Williamson, meant that Buns had two minutes to snatch an unlikely point. It didn’t happen though, and the Poles join Buns on three points in the early stages of the season.

NICE BUNS 8 POLISH ARMY 9

MOM: SLAWEK (POLISH ARMY)

Into League One, which will briefly be the bottom division for a season, and Deportivo Lack Of Talent and Fat Boys Run Wild faced each other after wins in week one. You never know what you’re going to get from Fat Boys, and in the first half they were involved in a competitive 25 minutes of football, but trailed at the break as Chris Cunliffe and Ashley Ellwood scored either side of Aaron Donville’s Fat Boys reply, before Rob Parker made it 3-1 at the half time whistle. That goal just before the break seemed to take some of the stuffing out of the Fat Boys, and Deportivo eased to a comfortable win in the second period. Parker added another 4 to his total, with Brad Peet and Josh Jackson adding the others, while Marcus Dean got two and James Donovan one as Fat Boys never really got close enough to threaten to take anything from this one.

DEPORTIVO LACK OF TALENT 9 FAT BOYS RUN WILD 4

MOM: ROB PARKER (DEPORTIVO LACK OF TALENT)

Inter Your Sister were here for the first time this season, and faced off against old adversaries The Veterans for the first time in a little while. This one was fairly one way in the opening half as Inter were a couple of regular players down, Andy Carrington and Connor Atkinson got two each, Steve Sammons (yes, THAT Steve Sammons) and an own goal were the scorers for The Vets, while Ben Waugh scored Inter’s solitary first half goal. The Veterans repeated their first half scoring feats to ease to a comfortable victory, Simon Grainger got a second half treble, Atkinson got two more and Carrington got his third, while Leigh Edwards got on the score sheet for Inter before Paul Waugh scored two late goals to make the scoreline seem a little closer than it could have been.

THE VETERANS 12 INTER YOUR SISTER 4

MOM: STEVE SAMMONS (THE VETERANS)

Roman FC and CA FC are both new to the Sunday league, and were both looking for their first Ballers wins since joining. Michael Winn gave Roman an early lead, but it was CA who looked good to take the points as Lorenzo Rodriguez got two, Jahed Hussain and David Hughes the others as they scored 4 in 8 minutes to go three up approaching the break. Matty Aked pulled one back for Roman before the interval, and the second half was a different story as Aked added 6 more to go alongside a goal from Marcus Mellor, with Ali Jaffer grabbing CA’s only second half goal. At least CA are being involved in more competitive games now than they were in the Monday league!

CA FC 5 ROMAN FC 9

MOM: MATTY AKED (ROMAN FC)

WE CAN FIND SPACES FOR NEW TEAMS IN EARLY 2019 AS WE LOOK TO ADD LEAGUE TWO BACK IN!

MONDAY LEAGUE

A couple of early drop outs in the Monday top division meant we decided to filter in a round of games where the top division and bottom division teams meet, and this was such a week. Expected Toulouse rejoined us for this season, and would have been Expected Toucomfortablywin this week against a patched up Nice Buns from the Championship. Goals from Jordan Milne and Waz Akram in the opening 5 minutes seemed to set them on their way towards this, but Connor Rabbett pulled one back for Buns before we reached the 10 minute mark. Milne scored again before the break, and Akram made it 4 a minute after the restart as Toulouse eased clear, with Akram getting his third and Baillie Blomeley adding his name to score sheet. Charlie Williamson pulled one back for Buns to make it 6-2 with 6 minutes left, but Blomeley and Milne added late goals to give the final scoreline a slightly less respectable look for the Championship side.

EXPECTED TOULOUSE 8 NICE BUNS 2

MOM:JORDAN MILNE (EXPECTED TOULOUSE)

New boys Grand Street Wanderers had a 50% record from their opening two games, and faced their first top division team in LoL FC this week looking to bounce back from last week’s comeback defeat to Diva Fever. They got off to a flyer as an own goal in the third minute was followed by goals from Rob Morris and Joe Bowden before the half way point of the opening period. Danny Arnold quickly pulled one back for LoL, but Bowden added two two more to go with Nick Russ’ goal to make it 6-1 to the new team at the break. Arnold pulled another back with his second of the game, but Wanderers kept them at arms length with Morris’ and Russ’ second goals either side of Aaron Derbyshire’s consolation for LoL as we find that the gap between top and bottom divisions maybe isn’t all that great.

GRAND STREET WANDERERS 8 LOL FC 3

MOM: JOE BOWDEN (GRAND STREET WANDERERS)

Diva were the comeback kings last week who nicked the win from Grand Street, and their game with Phantom Brazilians looked like being an interesting match up, with Phantom yet to pick up a Premiership point this time around. Were level at 2-2 at the break as Daniel Clayton scored two form Phantom Brazilians either side of a Ben Marsland double for Diva. Clayton’s third edged Phantom back in front with 19 to play, before things exploded into life in the final 10 minutes. Nathan Wilkinson’s 43rd minute goal for Diva had them level for a minute before Clayton scored again, and the same thing happened when Andrew Shaw restored the Phantom lead again after a John Brookes equiliser. Phantom couldn’t hang on though, and Mike Devitt ensured we finished all square with a last gasp goal.

DIVA FEVER 5 PHANTOM BRAZILIANS 5

MOM: DANIEL CLAYTON (PHANTOM BRAZILIANS)

WE CURRENTLY HAVE THREE SPACES AVAILABLE FOR ANY NEW TEAMS WANTING TO GET INVOLVED AT THE START OF 2019

TUESDAY LEAGUE

A truncated Tuesday Premiership came to a premature conclusion this week as Michu At De Gea Ba and Beercalona played their final scheduled game. Beercalona have lost a couple of players recently, but fielded a competitive side as the teams went in at the break all square after Adam Porter grabbed a leveler for Michu after Dave Watson had given Beercalona an early lead. For long periods of the second half it looked like this might remain the score, but when Michael Jennison edged Michu in front with 10 minutes to go it looked like they were heading for all three points. The spoils were shared in the end as Scott Williams scored three minutes from time to see both teams take a point to end their Premiership season. Both teams will merge into the Championship from next week.

MICHU AT DE GEA BA 2 BEERCALONA 2

MOM: TOM RATCLIFFE (BEERCALONA)

Shaka could effectively clinch the Championship title this week if they could beat nearest rivals Bandit Athletic, a reverse of the game that they won comfortably earlier in the season. Things looked like being very different this time around as Bandit raced into a 4 goal lead in the opening 5 minutes as Michael Winn, Ray Donnelly and Kyle Clarke added to an own goal to put them in charge. An own goal at the other end got Shaka on the board in the 10th minute, but the remainder of the half mirrored the first part as Bandit went into the break 8-2 in front with Winn scoring three more and Clarke his second, with Ryan Green getting Shaka’s goal. It was a stroll for Bandit in the second period as Donnelly got two more, Winn, Dylan Feast and Connor Atkinson the others as Bandit went top and did their goal difference a huge amount of good at the same time.

SHAKA FC 2 BANDIT ATHLETIC 13

MOM: DYLAN FEAST (BANDIT ATHLETIC)

FC have bizarrely struggled to field a team since they picked up their first ever Ballers win a few weeks ago, and they weren’t helped this week by late drop outs and no shows ahead of their game with El Caliente. They still managed to get themselves in front here as Jamie (just Jamie) gave them the lead in the third minute, but any hopes of a closely fought contest were quickly ended as Caliente roared back to lead 6-1 at the break. Nathaniel Odysseus-Kingsley and Matt Robinson got two each, Mark Carruthers and Aiden Jones the others. It didn’t get any more competitive in the second period as it was doubles all the way from Carruthers, O-K, Robinson, Jones and Paul Bardsley, who grabbed his double after coming out of goal for the final few minutes. Connor Atkinson, who’d stepped in for FC, grabbed their only second half reply.

EL CALIENTE 16 FC 2

MOM: MATT ROBINSON (EL CALIENTE)

It didn’t exactly prove to be the most competitive week of games in the Tuesday Championship, and the game between Ballotellitubbies and FC AOTS was the same, despite looking like a decent game on paper beforehand. AOTS were in complete control at the break as Paul Buckley, Eoghan Scott, Azz Hilton and Andy Callahan gave them a 4-0 first half lead. Scott, Calahan (2) and an own goal added to the AOTS toal before Ballo finally got on the sheet through Jaden Heywood’s goal, and while Alex Lomas got a second for them in the final 10 minutes, Callahan and Tom Dennerly completed the rout for AOTS before the full time whistle.

THE NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE WILL START IN JANUARY 2019, SPACES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

The new Wednesday league got kicked off with Champions Wellspring FC looking to start the defence of their title against Out Of Shape FC, and last season’s Runners Up Exeter Gently looking to get off to a good start against Stockport Eagles. Wellspring didn’t get off to a good start as they went 2-0 down in the opening 5 minutes as Marcin and Milosz Zawila scored for Out Of Shape. An injury to Shape’s keeper Luzasz Skiera gave Wellspring a helping hand, and they were two up by the break as Mike Devitt grabbed three and Lee Cullen the other. They took complete control in the second half ran out comfortable winners as Shane Bridges got two, Nathan Wilkinson and Mike Cocks the others to go with an own goal to ease Wellspring to victory.

OUT OF SHAPE FC 2 WELLSPRING FC 9

MOM: SHANE BRIDGES (WELLSPRING FC)

Eagles had a pretty disappointing season by their Wednesday standards last time out and will be looking for improvement this campaign. It was 1-1 after 4 minutes as Brad Robison cancelled out Ray Donnelly’s opener, but Ryan McAndrew and Michael Winn gave Eagles a two goal lead 9 minutes before the break. Tom Wood pulled one back for Exeter, but Donnelly restored Eagles two goal lead before the half time whistle. Paul Waugh made it 5-2 4 minutes after the restart, and though Kristian Igo reduced that lead again for Exeter, Eagles took control and made the game safe through further goals from Jack McDonagh, Winn, McAndrew and Donnelly, with Igo’s second scant consolation for Exeter.

THE NEW WEDNESDAY LEAGUE MAY HAVE STARTED, BUT WE COULD STILL FIND SPACE FOR ONE MORE TEAM IF THE DEMAND WAS THERE…..

October Blog – The Terrible Two’s…..

Something has crept up on us today, it’s the second anniversary of the first EVER night of Ballers games!

To celebrate, this is the quickest ever thrown together Ballers Blog to once again thank EVERYONE who’s been involved over these first two years. There’s plenty of stats out there in black and white to show how many new companies fail in their first couple of years, but we’re still standing! To those of you who were there at the start, regardless of whether you’re still with us, we wouldn’t be here without out you and the foundations you helped us put in place. If you were here at the start and are still with us, the level of appreciation is multiplied infinitely and hopefully we’ll come up with a suitable way to reward you! If you found us a little later down the line, at least you found us, and we thank you for it, and if you aren’t currently playing, hopefully we’ll see you back with us one day……

Heading into year 3 we are looking at our options for expansion, starting with the opportunity to get a 5-a-side league going at Cheadle Town FC on a Thursday evening (starting very soon!), and we’re looking forward to seeing where the partnership between the two of us can lead.

One thing that we are going to change, at least in the short term, is that we are going to do away with the weekly round up and replace it with a full monthly review. To sweeten the deal we will be throwing a little extra into these, including a review of the action from each division per month, a ‘Good Month / Bad Month’ section for each division, an overall Performance Of The Month, Player Of The Month and Team Of The Month (with photos!), and whatever else we can think of to cram in there. The aim is to have the monthly review and a monthly blog so there will still be fairly regular relevant content going onto the website. Unfortunately the weekly round up was just taking up a little too much time, and while we want to keep giving you guys what you want (if you ever read anything on here), we also want to be spending time on other things to try and improve the overall customer experience. Isn’t the phrase ‘overall customer experience’ horrifically cheesy……

The one other thing we were planning on throwing into a blog was the changing face of small sided football, but we’ll touch on that next month!

Unfortunately we aren’t going to be celebrating with a bumper Tuesday league night, thanks to United and City in the Champions League, but there’s always tomorrow…….

Weekly Round Up – 28th September 2018

Maybe the summer isn’t quite over yet! Any non-Ballers might want to get signed up to try and get a last bit of sun on your skin before the darkness descends……

SUNDAY LEAGUE

The Sunday Premiership still looks to be a division to watch, and returned to capacity after El Caliente rejoined us to replace Real Maskid, who went AWOL without playing a game this season. The good thing from their point of view is that it happened early enough for them to have the chance to catch up their missed games, starting with two this week while Duno had lads away. Their first was against unbeaten Wilmslow Whoppers, who are hoping to to turn recent draws into wins, and they started well with goals from Alex Jackson and Dan Exley in the opening 6 minutes. Danny King pulled one back inside the opening 10 minutes, but the Whoppers quickly restored their two goal lead with an Olly Ford goal a minute later. Liam Delaney scored two more to increase the Whoppers lead to 4, but Nathaniel Odysseus-Kingsley reduced the deficit just before the break. King got his second two minutes after the break to get Caliente within two, and it remained two when Fidelis Eberegbe scored after Exley had got his second for Whoppers. The Whoppers eased clear in the final 10 as Jackson and Ford got two more apiece, with just a Divine strike (someone called Divine, rather than God himself) in response for Caliente. A tough night for Caliente didn’t look like easing off as they had a second game against Bangers & Pash, who went into this week’s game top of the table. After a slow start things burst into life with 4 goals in 6 minutes approaching the break. Matt Sheehan and Rory Kelly scored either side of goals from Odysseues-Kinglsey and King to see us into the break at 2-2, and it was 3-3 with 20 minutes remaining as Chris Carroll and Ross Grealey scored within a minute of each other. King’s second and an own goal gave Caliente a two goal lead, but that was back to one with 7 minutes to play as Harry Kilmartin grabbed Bangers 4th. The final and decisive goal of the game secured a surprise win for Caliente as Grealey got his second in the final minute to incredibly leave Champions Duno as the only Premiership side without a win. Stockport Eagles looked to be the surprise package of the Premiership after picking up 4 points from their last two very tough games, but a third awaited them this week as Insole looked to make it two wins from their first two games. There was only one goal in the opening half an hour, and it was Jordan Cunningham who got it for Insole in the 9th minute. When Dylan Feast got their second with 18 minutes left the floodgates opened, and three goals from Kyle Clarke and another from Connor Harding saw them go 6 up with 10 to play. No more goals in those final 10 minutes mean that Insole pick up a surprisingly one sided win which could kick start a genuine title challenge.

The clash of the top two at the start of play didn’t take place, so the other 4 teams had the chance to close the gap. Beercalona and Sevilla Lacatalent were both looking for a second win of the season, and at half time Sevilla were the favourites as they recovered from Dave Watson’s early strike for Beercalona to lead 3-1 at the break as Jake Riley got two and Sam Melling the other. Tom Ratcliffe got one back for Beercalona early in the second half, but Sevilla restored their two goal lead with an own goal with 20 minutes left. Scott Williams and Jay Ratcliffe both scored to make things all square, and Williams second edged Beercalona in front as we headed towards the final 5 minutes. Jay Ratcliffe got the final goal as Beercalona completed their comeback to move up to third place in the table. Polish Army went into this week’s round of games as the only Championship team without a win, but each of their games up until now had been close. That didn’t look like being the case this week as they trailed 8-0 at half time against Kipsta Cobras, Connor Harding with three, Dylan Lowth two, James Bamgbose, Tom Leach and Warren Yeo one each. The second half wasn’t much better, but they only conceded 5 more to give Kipsta a resounding 13-0 win, Harding and Lowth with two more each and Yeo with his second. Not the best game to choose to film……

The leaders in League One also didn’t have a league game this week as Murder On Zidane’s Floor were let down by the withdrawal of Pat’s Giants (hopefully just for now…). The McMuffin Men could take top spot with a win over Nice Buns B, but that looked unlikely at the break as goals from Paul Cheetham, Charlie Williamson and Sean Cope gave Buns a 3-1 half time lead with Charley Eyre grabbing McMuffin’s only goal of the opening half. 3-1 became 4-1 when Jimmy Williamson scored with 17 minutes left, and Charlie ensured they restored their three goal lead with 10 to play after Mark Bailey had pulled one back for McMuffin. Calan Sherer and Bailey both scored to make it 5-4 with two minutes left, but Buns held on for a win that sends them third. Team Tom were planning their parade after they beat Inter Your Sister on night one with 5 men, but they’ve picked up no more points since then and needed a win over the same opposition to stay in contention at the top end. Jimmy Robinshaw put Inter ahead early, but Carl Carter and Aaron Crook ensured Team Tom lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Craig Johnson made it Desmond at the break, and Inter looked to have it won when they scored three without reply in the opening stages of the second half, two more from Robinshaw and one from Leigh Edwards. Phil Partakis gave the Tommers hope going into the final 5 minutes, and Carter got his second in the final minute, but it wasn’t enough to get anything out of the game for Team Tom as both League One games finished 5-4 (and would have been much better to film than our actual choice…..).

Another division, and another top of the table team not playing this week as Step Brothers were forced to cancel late on for family reasons. The Veterans could join them at the top of the table with a win over new boys Fat Boys Run Wild, and the result was all but determined by the break as three goals from Ben Mercer and one each from Ryan Prestwich, Dean Minshull and Sam Collicott saw them lead 6-2, with the replies coming from Matthew Kealy and Jimmy. Just Jimmy. The same Jimmy scored two in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to reduce the deficit to two goals, but the longer standing team finished much the stronger as Prestwich, Collicott and Adam Pinder all scored two each in the final 15 to give The Veterans as 12-4 win. FC AOTS and Deportivo Lack Of Talent were both looking to pick up a second win of the season as they faced off this week. It looked to be AOTS night as they lead 3-0 at the break with Eoghan Scott scoring two after Adam Duty had given them an early lead. Deportivo made a fight of it in the second half as Ben Proctor scored two in three minutes to make it 3-2 with 15 minutes left, but Duty grabbed a last gasp goal to ensure AOTS moved into third place.

Murder On Zidane’s Floor took on Wilmslow Whoppers in a friendly that turned into an absolute goal-fest. Olly Ford scored 5 and Alex Jackson 4 for Whoppers, with Dan Evans scoring 6 for Murder as the Whoppers won a 26 goal thriller 14-12.

THE SUNDAY LEAGUE REMAINS FULL BE WE REMAIN OPEN TO THE IDEA OF EXPANDING THE LEAGUE AS SOON AS WE CAN. GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS

MONDAY LEAGUE

The Monday Premiership continues to be a place where teams fear to tread. So much so that this was another week where there were no games played. Fortunately new teams are coming in to fill up the Monday league from the bottom, so by the time the new season starts next month we should hopefully be full of reliable teams….

A tough task faced new boys Garvins Ballers as they looked to become the first team to take points off Netsix & Chill this season. They struck first through Jahid Hussain’s opening minute goal, but the leaders took control as the half went on, with Jimmy Leeson scoring three in the next 9 minutes, and Thomas Leach adding two more before the break. They cruised to a comfortable victory as Leeson added two more, Aaron Campbell three and James Bamgbose the other, with Joshua Hargreaves and Jordan Cunningham scoring late on for Garvins. Phantom Brazilians look likely to finish second, and would take another step towards that if they could beat Nice Buns this week. It was Buns who edged the opening half though, as three Jay Berrisford goals saw them lead 3-2 at the break, with an own goal and a Andrew Shaw finish in response for Phantom. Paul Wilkinson quickly drew Phantom level at the start of the second half, and they took control from there as Matt Barton added two and Shaw his second to give them a hard fought win.The Monday Randommers were even more random than ever this week as only two players who’d actually played for them before turned out this week, but after a tough run of fixtures they went up against the still to be renamed CA FC in what was their first official league game. The Randoms lead 4-2 at the break as two goals from Lukas Voveris and one each for Shaun Mulverney and Harvey Marsh were enough to give them the edge with Josh Jones pulling two back for CA. Jones’ third made it 4-3 with 20 minutes left, but two more from Voveris eased Randoms clear again. Two more Mulverney goals in the final 5 minutes secured the win, with a consolation from Charlie Andrew all the new team could muster in the dying stages.

We welcomed another new team this week in LoL FC, and they faced off against a hybrid of Diva Fever and Wellspring in a friendly on their first night. Costa got their first Ballers goal, and Chris Rhodes ensured they lead at the break after John Brookes had leveled things up. The new boys ran away with it in the second half though, as Costa and Aaron Derbyshire got two each and Gary Banks they other as they finished up 7-2 winners.

THERE’S ONE LAST SPACE AVAILABLE FOR ANY NEW TEAMS WANTING TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE NEW MONDAY LEAGUE DUE TO START IN OCTOBER

TUESDAY LEAGUE

With the Tuesday Premiership all but sewn up and the Championship to be decided tonight, that means we’re just a couple of weeks away from the start of the NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE! First things first, and Gangs Of Dwight Yorke had to draw a line under their Premiership season by securing the title against Shaka. They were well on their way when Wayne Reeves opened the scoring and an own goal made it 2-0 within the opening 10 minutes. The goals flowed regularly throughout, as Reeves’ second was followed by goals two from Rob Brocklehurst and one from Wez Barker before the break. More of the same followed in the second period as Connor Harding got on the sheet, Callu Jones and Barker got two each, and Brocklehurst got his third, with the only blot on their night being a last minute Liam Paull goal to deny them a clean sheet. Second place was still to be played for, and Total Bala and Michu At De Gea Ba were two teams in contention for it. John Wood gave Bala the lead in the opening minutes, but Michu lead 3-1 at the break as Matt barton scored two and Michael Jennison got the other. It was 4-1 three minutes after the restart as Fidelis Eberegbe grabbed a goal, but Lee Manion reduced the arrears a minute later. Barton’s third with 18 minutes left looked to have put Michu in complete control, but Bala struck back with three in 4 minutes, two from Ethan Kaye and Manion with his second of the game. Both teams went for it in the final 10 minutes, but the game ended the way it started, with Wood’s late finish to give Bala the comeback win.

Wellspring knew what they had to do this week, and any kind of win over Bandit Athletic would be enough for them to claim the Championship title. They struck first through George Quayle’s 8th minute goal, but Bandit pressed hard to get back in it throughout an otherwise goalless first half. When Wellspring got their second through Carlton Cowley’s finish 7 minutes after the restart, they hit two more in quick succession to secure both the win and the title, Cowley with his second and Shane Bridges their 4th. Dylan Feast got a deserved goal back for Bandit with 6 minutes left, but Mike Devitt got the final goal to cap a fine season for Wellspring. The likes of Gangs await them in the Premiership next season…..

We welcomed a couple of new teams to the Tuesday league this week, with the hopefully soon to be renamed NT FC debuting against Show Me Da Mane. Lots of goals in this one, with Chris Murray getting 7 of Mane’s 16 as the new boys ran out of steam after being within two goals at the break. Nicky and Lewis Thirkill and Reds King all got two each for the new boys, who lost 16-7 in week one. FC AOTS also doubled up their Sunday night by joining Tuesday as well, and they faced familiar foes in Beercalona in a friendly this week. Three goals from Ste Whittle weren’t enough for them to get anything out of it though, as three from Tom Ratcliffe and two from namesake Jay gave Beercalona an 8-4 win.

THE NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE STARTS ON 9TH OCTOBER. WE CURRENTLY HAVE ONE SPACE AVAILABLE, BUT IT REALLY WON’T STICK AROUND LONG, SO GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS OR TO REGISTER

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Polish Army were back in the Wednesday league this week, fresh off the back of their Sunday hammering, and their return was a tough looking encounter with the current champs Ajax Treesdown. They started really well though, going three up in the opening 12 minutes through goals from Julian, Slawek and debuting Norbert. They looked like they might hold onto that lead until the break, but two goals in the final 5 minutes of the half from Matt Taylor and Evan Farrell. Within 5 minutes of the restart the comeback was complete as Adam Taylor leveled up and an own goal put Ajax in front for the first time. The Army weren’t up for letting this go easily though, and Julian quickly got his second to make it 4-4. Adam Taylor’s second 11 minutes from time looked for a while like it could be the winner, but we weren’t expecting 4 goals in the final 4 minutes. Norbert’s second made it all square again, but Adam Taylor scored two, either side of Farrell’s second to give Ajax a really hard fought win. Unprotected Cesc’s Wednesday debut was a defeat to Exeter Gently, so it would be interesting to see how far they had come since that opening night. It didn’t start well as Kristian Igo gave Exeter a lead in the first minute, but Max Brookes quickly leveled things up. A close first half ended all square at 3-3 with an own goal and a Tom Harrison strike for Exeter being matched by goals from Jack McDonagh and Brookes. The second half was just as close, and it was 4-4 with 15 minutes remaining as another own goal put Exeter back in front before Jahed Hussain again drew Cesc level. Brookes third put Cesc in front half way through the period, but Wednesday was a night of late drama as we again had 4 late goals. Cesc went two up through McDonagh’s second, but Igo and Mo Torkian looked to have given Exeter a share of the spoils. There was a winner though, and it went to the Cescy boys as Si Robinshaw grabbed a last gasp goal to give them their first three points of the season.

THE WEDNESDAY LEAGUE REMAINS FULL. ANY OF THE OTHER NIGHTS SEEM TO BE YOUR BEST OPTION!

Weekly Round Up – 21st September 2018

Another week of picking up new teams as we look for a long and busy Autumn and Winter of Ballers action, just at the time the Champions League comes along to cause us a bit of grief. Ah well, what are you going to do? City might not be a problem for long anyway……. Oh, and we’ve got some BIG NEWS THIS WEEK!

LEAGUE NEWS

You may have already heard, but we’re starting a BRAND NEW THURSDAY 5-A-SIDE LEAGUE at a BRAND NEW VENUE, at Cheadle Town FC. This league can kick off as soon as we’ve got 8 teams to go. More details can be found elsewhere on the site or on our social media pages, but one off trial games are available from as soon as next week for any teams that want to give it a go.

The new Tuesday league kicks off on 9th October, and by our reckoning we’ve got ONE SPACE left to fill. We’re also finding the Monday league spaces are filling pretty quickly too, so to take what few spaces we’ve got left in those nights, get in touch.

We’re still looking to expand the Sunday league, while the Wednesday league is as full as full can be, so you know where to look if you’re wanting to get started.

We’ve also launched a competition to win a FREE MONTH OF FOOTBALL on our Facebook page this week, so have a look and get involved.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

This ‘ere Sunday league is really starting to fall together nicely, especially the top division, which has seen every team drop points in the opening three weeks (apart from Real Maskid, who it seems have left us without playing a game this season. Don’t panic, that space is already filled…..). Duno’s long unbeaten run ended last week, and a much changed team took on Bangers & Pash this week as they looked to get back to winning ways. We were halfway through the first half before we had the first goal and it came from Robbie Fallon of Bangers. Chris Carroll made it two before Jack Cope got Duno back in it soon after, but Bangers were in control at the break as Carroll and Harry Kilmartin struck in the final 5 minutes of the period. There was no way back for the champs as Kilmartin and Matt Toft added further goals without reply in the second half to see Bangers sit top of the early season league table. Wilmslow Whoppers and Stockport Eagles met this week, fresh off the back of their first Ballers Premiership wins last week, and goals from Ray Donnelly and Olly Ford in the opening 4 minutes got us off to a cracking start at 1-1 and the first half barely relented from here. Ford’s second put Whoppers in front on 11 minutes, but within two minutes Lee Clarke and Callum Jones had turned things in Eagles favour. Donnelly made it 4-2 for Eagles 8 minutes before the break, but two goals in a minute from Callum Hewitt and Ford had us level again. Jones second edged Eagles in front again, but Ford got his 4th of the period to send us into the break breathless at 5-5. The 4 second half goals were crammed into 8 second half minutes, as Eagles twice went in front again through another Donnelly brace, but each time Whoppers hit back to pick up their second draw of the season as Liam Delaney and Craig Plunkett scored to give us a final score of 7-7. This top division really is anyone’s at this stage.

Kinky Slipper have been used to being the team to catch over the past couple of years, and that’s where they will hope to stay as the Championship season takes shape. They would have expected three points this week against Polish Army, who were still looking for their first point since the big Ballers return, and after both teams exchanged goals in the opening two minutes, Johnny Dambrosio for Kinky and Pawel for the Army, it was a mostly Kinky half. A spell of 5 goals in a blistering 8 minute spell put them well in control, two from Rob Cresswell and one each from James Radcliffe, Joe Lailey and Dambrosio. Bania gave the Army a glimmer of hope with two in the latter stages of the half, and when he scored again 5 minutes from the end of a quieter second half there was only two goals in it. Radcliffe got his second to pretty much secure the win, with Bania grabbing his 4th as a consolation in the final few minutes. Whoever picked up the win between Ladzio and Sevilla Lacatalent this week would take up the position of nearest challengers to Kinky at the end of play this week, and the top two from last season’s League One couldn’t be separated at the break as Owen McNally scored two late goals to level things up after David Witter and Daniel McDonald had given Sevilla an early two goal lead. A desperately close second half saw Lewis Findlow give Lazdio the lead with just 4 minutes to play, and McNally’s third in the final minute looked to have this one won. They had to see it out after Sam Melling’s headed finish made it 4-3, but there was no time for Sevilla to claim anything from this one.

The rotating door continued to rotate for Inter Your Sister this week, as their much changed team took on The McMuffin Men, who are always the model of consistency. That consistency showed in the first half as they went into the break 6-0up , with Charley Eyre’s opener being followed by doubles from Sam Delgado and Logan Sherer, and a Mark Bailey strike to finish the first half scoring. Matt Kealy got Inter off the mark three minutes into the second period, but only after Eyre had added McMuffin’s 7th, and there were more McMuffin goals from Delgado and Bailey before Kane Malone got Inter’s second. Three more McMuffin goals followed to complete a more than comfortable victory, Delgado with two and Eyre with another. Nice Buns Sunday opener ended in defeat to Inter last week, while Team Tom’s solitary win from the opening two games had come against the same opposition when they only had 5 players, so a comfortable victory should have been in store for them this week. This League One seems to be a funny one though, and Jimmy Williamson scored two to put Buns in front by the 20 minute mark. Carl Carter pulled one back for the Tommers, but Williamson added two more before the break to give Buns a comfortable half time lead. Carter got another for Tom early in the second half, but Charlie Williamson got in on the act before Jimmy added his 5th with 15 to play. Phil Partakis gave Team Tom a hint of a chance with a goal two minutes later, but Charlie grabbed the final goal of the game in the final few moments to ease Buns to a first Sunday win. Under Rated continued to ease themselves back into Sunday action  with an interesting looking game against Murder On Zidane’s Floor. Chris Leah gave Under Rated the lead on 5 minutes, but Dan Evans scored three to put Murder in charge at the break. Leah grabbed two in three minutes early in the second half to bring the scores level again, but goals from Jake Barnes and Karl Mason inside the final 10 minutes secured a win for Murder, with Jimmy Nation grabbing a reply for Under Rated with the final kick of the game.

Step Brothers have found that a settled team has helped them early on this season, and their promotion push saw them take on a Stront Bakken team this week who will also be hoping to have a bash at getting back into League One next time around. Chris Moore scored the only goal of the opening period to send Step Brothers into the break in front, and after Tom Cioffi had doubled that lead 5 minutes into the second period they took a firm grip on proceedings. An own goal and Moore’s magical second pretty much secured a third straight win for the Brotherhood, with Chris Sinclair adding a 5th as Step Brothers ensured they maintined their 100% record after three games. The Veterans and FC AOTS both look capable of putting together a promotion push this season, but only one of these teams lived up to that in the first half. Two goals from Simon Grainger, an own goal and one each from Adam Pinder and Dean Minshull meant that AOTS winning record with their new shirts was in danger with only Eoghan Scott getting on the score sheet for them in the opening period. His second after the break reduced the deficit to three, and after Pinder got his second for The Vets, AOTS threatened a comeback as Steve Whittle and Adam Duty got two with one Paul Atherton goal sandwiched in between for The Vets to leave them just 7-6 in front. Grainger got his third with 5 minutes to play to give ease The Vets to a narrow win, and they go second. Deportivo Lack Of Talent and SK Six were both pointless going into this week’s game, and 7 Deportivo first half goals meant it looked like being their night. Rhys Moult got the opener, Brad Peet and Rob Parker grabbed two apiece, with Josh Jackson and Alex Babcock scoring the others while Steve Blunsten replied with two and Henry Cooke another for SK. The second half goals came late, too late for SK to claim anything as Parker got three more, while Cooke, Brad Bent and Max Blunsten Shepherd got the goals for SK in a more even second period.

THE 4 SUNDAY DIVISIONS REMAIN FULL. SPACES CAN BE CREATED FOR A DIVISION 5 TO START ON 7TH OCTOBER WITH FRIENDLIES AVAILABLE FOR ANY NEW OR RETURNING TEAMS IN THE MEANTIME. GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS.

MONDAY LEAGUE

There are tentative signs of the green shoots of recovery after a tricky summer for the Monday league, with two more new teams playing their first games this week, and another lined up for a Ballers debut next week. We’ll be turning teams away before we know it….. As is fairly standard, there was only one game in the top division as Kroos Control looked to continue their quest for a debut Monday crown against J Stands Barmy Army. It was the Army that took the lead on 5 minute through Reece Nuttall’s goal, but Kroos were in control before the break as Calvin Alexander got two, Ray Donnelly and Liam Watson the others. Watson’s 4th two minutes into the second half put Kroos 4 clear, and in a second half where J Stands applied plenty of pressure to try and get themselves back into this one, Kroos picked them off in the final 10 minutes as Donnelly and Watson grabbed two more each and Stevie Whetham got the other as Kroos ran out 10-1 winners in a surprisingly one sided game.

The Monday Randommers (potential new name ‘Insert Joe Kinnear’) made their Ballers debut a few weeks ago with a victory over Phantom Brazilians, but both teams were much changed when they went up against each other again this week, and two players who didn’t play last time put Phantom in early control as Matt Holbrook and Paul Wilkinson gave them an early two goal lead. Ryan Clayton made it a three goal cushion at the break, and a pretty comfortable win for the Brazilians was complete when Daniel Clayton and Wilkinson scored in the final 10 minutes. The potentially soon to be renamed Garvins Ballers made their debut against Monday mainstayers Nice Buns this week, and the difference in the style of football they had been previously playing was there to be seen in the early stages as Buns went two up through goals from the Williamson boys, Charlie and Jimmy. Josh Welsh got the Ballers first Ballers goal, but Jimmy restored the two goal lead before the break. He got another along with a goal from Tom Hall in the first 5 minutes of the second half to move Buns 4 clear, but Welsh got his second to keep the new team in touch. Christoper Wellings pulled two back for Ballers in the final 10 minutes, but Jimmy got his 4th, while Paul Cheetham and Tom Dempsey also added to the Buns total, with a mystery goalscorer getting on the board for Garvins, who lost 8-5 on their first night. There’s always next week!

Another new team, currently known as CA FC, made their first Ballers appearance as well this week, and at half time it looked fairly ominous as they trailed 3-0 to FC AOTS. THey shook off the first half rust to put up a decent fight to give them some hope in the second half, with John Roberts scoring two of their goals, but three from Adam Atherton and two from Eoghan Scott ensured AOTS held on for a 7-4 win. A mish-mash friendly between Netsix & Chill and Wellspring ended up being a tight affair with the Monday regulars running out 4-2 winners after a goal-less second half, Aaron Campbell scoring two of their goals.

WE CAN STILL FIND SPACES FOR NEW TEAMS IN OUR MONDAY LEAGUE, SO GET IN TOUCH FOR DETAILS. THE NEW SEASON STARTS AT THE END OF OCTOBER.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The Tuesday review won’t take long this week, as it seems that more teams were interested in watching Liverpool than they were United or City on the Wednesday! Beercalona needed a win, and probably a big one if they were to hold out much hope of overtaking Wellspring at the top of the Tuesday Championship in this week’s only league game. Show Me Da Mane had a few different faces in from the last time these two teams met, and one of those new faces, Mark Carruthers, gave them the lead after 5 minutes. Beercalona hit back to lead at the break as Scott Williams and Tom Ratcliffe replied for them, but Mane started the second half very strongly to race into a 4-2 lead with 15 minutes to go, Carruthers second followed by two from Nathaniel Odysseus-Kingsley. With Beercalona’s hopes of overturning Wellspring’s goal difference advantage well and truly done, all they could do was to try and win the game to at least make Wellspring play for it next week, and even if they don’t end up being champions at the end of this, they showed the stuff of champions as Ratcliffe’s second was followed by two more from Williams as they fought back to nick this one 5-4.

In friendly action, a patched up Premiership Total Bala faced a patched up Championship Bandit Athletic. In horrific conditions, 4 goals from Rick Kelly were the difference as the top division team beat the newcomers 7-3.

THE NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE STARTS ON 9TH OCTOBER, AND BY OUR CALCULATIONS WE CURRENTLY HAVE SPACE FOR ONE MORE NEW OR RETURNING TEAM. FOR MORE DETAILS OR TO REGISTER, GET IN TOUCH

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

They might not both have been league games, but the fact that we were able to get two games on on the same night as United and City’s opening Champions League games is a very good sign! The one league game that took place was between last season’s runners up Stockport Eagles and new boys CSKA Cheadle, with both sides looking to make it two wins from two to start the season. We were even after 10 minutes as Ben Waugh drew Eagles level after Tom Weaver had grabbed an early goal for CSKA, but the new team lead at the break as Chris Kennedy and Andy Whitelegg got on the score sheet. It looked a long way back for Eagles when Karim Slouti scored with 15 minutes to go, and they quickly restored their three goal lead when Whitelegg got his second a couple of minutes after Ray Donnelly had pulled one back for the Eagles. It was game on with 6 minutes to go as a ‘controversial’ Donnelly goal, 4 minutes after Paul Waugh’s finish meant it was 5-4, but Whitelegg quickly got his third to end any hopes of an Eagles comeback, and gave Cheadle a second straight win to start their Ballers life.

In friendly action, the 5 men of Wellspring fell to a respectable 8-4 defeat to Unprotected Cesc, with debutant Will Hartley scoring 5 of their goals.

THE WEDNESDAY LEAGUE REMAINS FULL. THE OTHER LEAGUES ARE YOUR BEST BET FOR AN IMMEDIATE START.

BALLERS ARE COMING TO CHEADLE!!

Ballers are coming to Cheadle!!
The good people at Cheadle Town FC have been in touch to see if we would be interested in making use of the 5-a-side pitch they have at their home ground on Park Road in Cheadle.

Spaces will be strictly limited to one division of 8, with 40 minute games kicking off from 7pm at the same price of £5 per player per game. There is option for more nights if the Thursday takes off as we expect it to.

We hope this could be the start of a long and fruitful relationship with Cheadle Town, who have big plans for the future, including a 7 year plan to get into the National Conference! They currently have a lot of work going on to improve the facilities at their home ground, and some of those plans might well include the introduction of more all weather pitch space, so hopefully this is just the start……

The league will take place in an enclosed 4G pitch, there is ample parking, changing and showering facilities at the venue, along with a small but very tidy bar area which includes Sky and BT Sport for those Arsenal and Chelsea fans to enjoy the Europa league (for now!). They have already said they are happy enough to offer up prizes of free tickets to games as they see the benefit of getting more people through the gates to have a look at the set up.

This will have absolutely no impact on the leagues we currently run at Reddish North End, but is an extra and an alternative for anyone who fancies a bit of Thursday action, or for anyone who craves a decent bit of 5-a-side for a change from the 6’s.

Trial games can start from as soon as NEXT WEEK, 27th September, and the league will start as soon as we have 8 committed teams signed up. So if you want to book in a one off game to come and have a look at what’s on offer, get in touch!
