Inter Row Z vs 2 Goals 1 Schlupp

After starting their Ballers life with a draw last week, Inter Row Z were back for their second game which on paper was a tougher encounter with 2 Goals 1 Schlupp, but it was a 2 Goals who had struggled for a side this week.

It didn’t seem like being a struggle when Lewis Bush gave them the lead in the second minute, and although Ryan McAndrew grabbed a leveller for Inter on 12 minutes, a further two goals from Owen Johnson eased 2 Goals into the break with a 3-1 lead.

Inter started the second half like a house on fire, as two goals each from Ciaran McGrath and Liam Watson turned this one around and saw Inter into a 4-3 advantage within the first 8 minutes. Things quickly swung back in 2 Goals favour as Frankie Barker made it 4-4 two minutes later, and another Johnson goal alongside a Lewis Hayes finish seemed to have cracked it for 2 Goals and got them back to winning ways with 12 minutes left. When Ray Donnelly reduced that lead to one with just 5 minutes remaining we looked set for a grand finale, and we got it as goals from Watson, McAndrew and McGrath won the game for Inter, who pick up their first Ballers victory.

LQ FC vs Only Kruls & Horses

LQ were on a high after picking up a couple of wins on the bounce, including a shock win over leaders 2 Goals 1 Schlupp last week. They joined a couple of weeks earlier than this week’s opponents Only Kruls & Horses (a reference one of our younger teams didn’t even understand…..) but had hit the ground running with two wins from two.

We had three goals in the opening 10 minutes of this one, with the debt-free Nat Bamford giving Only Kruls the lead on 4 minutes. Debutant Victor Necsulescu drew LQ level three minutes later, but within 60 second they were behind again as Bamford got his second. The pattern continued throughout the half as Alex Brash drew LQ level again, only for James Thornley to restore the Kruls lead for the third time. Brad Gilman’s goal 5 minutes from the break seemed to have put Only Krul’s into a decisive lead, but two goals in a minute approaching the half time whistle from Brash and Tim Price saw us into the break at 4-4.

The decisive part of the game was saved for the early period of the second period as Gilman and Thornley got their second goals in the opening 5 minutes to restore the Kruls two goal lead. In a quieter second half there was no way back for LQ this time, and Gilman finished the game off with his third 8 minutes from time. Despite starting a couple of weeks behind the rest, Only Kruls are now top of the pile as we reach the halfway point of the season.
