FC AOTS vs Deportivo Lack Of Talent

AOTS went into the final night of their debut season in League One still in with a sniff of nicking second spot and a promotion place. For that to happen they would need a freak set of results to aid them, one of which would be a massive win over a Deportivo team who have really struggled this season and who will be heading for League Two next season.

Eoghan Scott got AOTS off the mark in the 4th minute, but any idea that this would lead to a goal fest in their favour were dented by a turnaround that saw Rob Parker score twice for Deportivo to put them in front by the 11th minute. AOTS got themselves level in the 16th minute as Adam Atherton grabbed a goal, and we remained at 2-2 at the break.

They were back in front two minutes after the break when Carl Buckley scored, and when Stephen Bowie made it 4-2 with 12 minutes still to play they might have been thinking of how many more they could get. When Dougie McCallum pulled another back for Deportivo 9 minutes from time, their thoughts needed to turn to just winning the game, and Stephen Whittle seemed to secure that with a goal two minutes later. Brad Peet got another for Depoirtivo with 4 minutes left on the clock, but AOTS held on for the win, and will now try and hold onto their League One spot as we look to try and push them up anyway……

Wellspring FC vs Duno FC

The last time these two teams met, it resulted in a more than comfortable win for Duno against a Wellspring side who have continued to struggle since losing some lads to university at the end of the summer. With Duno having agreed to hit the top division for the new season this was surely going to be another comfortable night for them……

Liam Watson gave them the lead in the 5th minute, but Murray Tupman grabbed a surprise leveller for Wellspring 4 minutes later. Steven Nevins restored the Duno lead a minute after, before Luke Cope and Nathan Wilkinson shared a goal apiece in the 15th minute to make it 3-2 to Duno. Wellspring turned it around before the break and lead 4-3 when the whistle went as Mike Cocks grabbed two goals in the latter stages of the half to leave the shock result still a distinct possibility.

The second half was a tighter affair as Wellspring worked to hold onto their lead, but their defenses were breached 10 minutes from time when Watson got his second to make it 4-4. Rather than folding at this point, Wellspring got themselves back in front through Wilkinson’s second, and they sealed one of the shock results of the season when Cocks grabbed his third in the final stages. They won’t get chance to do it again next season though……
