Recap
If they aren’t careful, The Veterans may find themselves in a Championship promotion fight at this rate! They took on a Dench team this week who were looking to recover from the defeat to Kipsta last week, and keep themselves in contention at the top end themselves.
The Vets got off to a flyer, racing into a two goal lead in the opening two minutes, Dean Minshull scoring the first and David Dunn the second. Phil Carroll pulled one back for Dench with 10 minutes on the clock, but Dunn made it 3-1 Veterans 8 minutes before the break, and Ryan Prestwich gave them a three goal lead 5 minutes later. Carroll’s second of the game gave Dench some hope of launching a second half comeback.
Those hopes came to fruition in the early part of the period as Matt McKelvey scored two in the first 4 minutes of the period to give us a level game, and they hit the front for the first time 4 minutes later when George Eaton grabbed himself a goal. That lead last all of a minute as Simon Grainger grabbed an equiliser for the Vets, and with 8 minutes left he scored again to put The Veterans back into the lead. Again, this was a lead that was short lived as Carroll completed his hat trick two minutes later, sending us into the final 5 minutes with all to play for. The game started as it ended, with a Minshull goal for The Veterans in the final minute to give them a win from a breathless game. The Vets join Dench on 6 points in the race for the Premiership.
