Strikeforce vs Old Reddish FC

Recap

As we approach the final stages of the Monday season, nothing but a win for Old Reddish would keep them in the title hunt going into the catch up week, and their long delayed second clash with AC Milmanchester. A comfortable win over Strikeforce a few weeks ago would suggest that they shouldn’t have any real issues getting those points this week.

Strikeforce were fielding a stronger side this week though, and looked like they could cause a shock as they went three up inside the opening 13 minutes. Mike Garratt opened the scoring in the second minute before Chris Espley and Joey Carruth added to their lead. Ben Wild got Reddish on the scoresheet 7 minutes before the break, and they reduced the deficit to one by the interval as Jimmy Leeson scored a minute before half time.

Any thoughts of Strikeforce rolling over in the second half didn’t look likely as Mike Pinder gave them a two goal lead again a minute into the second period, but a Simon Hackney goal two minutes later was the start of a period of Reddish dominance. Wild drew them level with 16 minutes to go, and they went in front for the first time 7 minutes from the end when Hackney got his second. Further goals from Ray Warburton. Hackney again and Leeson made the game safe, before arguably the goal of the game from Espley in the final minute (missed by the camera) gave Strikeforce a consolation. It’s all on next week…….
