Recap
For the third time, Insole went into the final night of the Sunday Premiership season with the title still on the line and goal difference potentially being a decisive factor. Their previous record was won one, lost one, with that loss having come a couple of seasons ago against this week’s opposition in Kinky Slipper. A two goal Insole win this week would leave us deciding the league on goals scored, which is something no one thought to look into before the game started……
Kinky were looking to make sure that the mathematical factors didn’t need to be taken into account, and Rob Cresswell gave them the lead in the second minute. Insole got themselves into the game after that slow start, and Jack Atkinson drew them level on 11 minutes, but Luke Braden exchanged being the regular Kinky ‘keeper for goalscorer as he restored their lead on 17 minutes. Again, Insole hit back as Jordan Cunningham made it Desmond two minutes from half time, but we weren’t level for long as Cresswell’s second a minute later meant Kinky went in 3-2 up at the break.
Atkinson quickly drew Insole level again after the restart, and they hit the front for the first time when Aaron Campbell fired home with 19 minutes of the season left. A minute later it was level yet again as Wes Harney got himself on the score sheet, but Atkinson’s third of the game 13 minutes from time set us up for a grandstand finish. Both teams went for it in the last 10 minutes, but when Kyle Clarke scored two minutes from time for Insole there were limited celebrations as no one really knew what that meant for the title! Confusion reigned as the full time whistle went, and it was only when the score was entered into the website that we realised that Insole had taken the title on goals scored!
What an end to the season, again!
