Recap
Both of these sides were very much in the mix up for promotion last season, in fact Jeremy Cheadle really should have taken the step up having won the Championship, but doubts as to whether they would be able to field a regular team meant they stayed down. The Chancers have also struggled of late, but a set of shirts commemorating a year since they joined us seemed to drag the stragglers off their couches this week!
It was Jeremy Cheadle who got off to the quicker start in this one, as two goals in a minute from Phil Monaghan saw them go two up inside the first 10 minutes. Phil Carroll pulled one back on 11 minutes, but one each from Jake Murray and Kieran Monaghan saw Cheadle into a comfortable lead 6 minutes before the break. The Chancers hit back, Carroll got his second and Callum Wild also got on the score sheet in the final minutes of the half to make it a one goal game at the break.
Two minutes into the second half we were level as Matthew Lynwood, freed from the shackles of the keepers responsibilities, grabbed himself a goal. There was only one more goal in the game, and it was obviously the decisive one, but we don’t know exactly when the own goal flew into the Cheadle net as the referee didn’t record the time! But it was enough to give The Chancers a hard fought win in the battle for promotion back to the Premiership.
