Season: Summer 2017
Jeremy Cheadle vs Phantom Brazilians
So tonight could be the night for Jeremy Cheadle! A win over Phantom Brazilians would confirm them as Monday Championship winners for this season, but Phantom can be a funny one and have pulled off a few surprise results in what ultimately has been a tricky season for them in terms of fielding a team most of the time.
They found fielding a team quite easy this week, and were looking to spoil the party as Jimmy Leeson gave them the lead on three minutes. That lead lasted just two minutes as Jake (just Jake. Was it Jake?!) levelled things up before Alex Whelan put them in front on 11 minutes. In a tight first half these were the only goals, as everything was still to play for in the second period.
Leeson grabbed his second with 18 minutes remaining to leave Cheadle’s promotion party possibly looking like dragging on into the extra week, but almost immediately Joel Farrell grabbed three goals in 4 minutes to help them open up a three goal lead. Robin Hulme pulled one back 8 minutes from time, but there was no Phantom comeback as Whelan secured the win and the title for Cheadle with the final goal of the game three minutes from time.

Woodleystone Raiders vs AC Milmanchester
Let’s Try Again vs Petr Cech Yourself
The new faces that have been added to the Petr Cech Yourself squad have really pepped up a season that looked like it was going to fizzle out amongst a series of disappointing results, and they went into this week’s game with Let’s Try Again off the back of two big wins. Their opponents this week had also had a recent upturn in form, which coincided with a more settled line up, and they came into this week’s game unbeaten in 4, with three of those games resulting in victories.
Conor Dolan gave LTA the lead in the opening minute, but that wasn’t a sign of things to come as Petr Cech gained a stranglehold as the half went on. It took until the 12th minute for them to level things up as Jordan Milne scored, but after that goals from Liam Mottram, Liam Smith and an own goal helped them open up a three goal lead. Joe Lailey pulled one back two minutes from the break, but Waz Akram found the time to add another for Petr Cech before the half time whistle.
The early period of the second half was vital in this one, and it was Petr Cech who made the vital move in those stages as Jack Grundy and Akram helped them into a 5 goal lead. Lailey grabbed his second to keep LTA in with a shout, but it was all Petr Cech in the final 15 minutes as they finished by far the stronger. A second own goal, followed by two from debutant Niall Hillen and one each for Akram and Milne eased them to a comfortable win as we look to decide which division to put them in next season…….

Strikeforce vs Old Reddish FC
As we approach the final stages of the Monday season, nothing but a win for Old Reddish would keep them in the title hunt going into the catch up week, and their long delayed second clash with AC Milmanchester. A comfortable win over Strikeforce a few weeks ago would suggest that they shouldn’t have any real issues getting those points this week.
Strikeforce were fielding a stronger side this week though, and looked like they could cause a shock as they went three up inside the opening 13 minutes. Mike Garratt opened the scoring in the second minute before Chris Espley and Joey Carruth added to their lead. Ben Wild got Reddish on the scoresheet 7 minutes before the break, and they reduced the deficit to one by the interval as Jimmy Leeson scored a minute before half time.
Any thoughts of Strikeforce rolling over in the second half didn’t look likely as Mike Pinder gave them a two goal lead again a minute into the second period, but a Simon Hackney goal two minutes later was the start of a period of Reddish dominance. Wild drew them level with 16 minutes to go, and they went in front for the first time 7 minutes from the end when Hackney got his second. Further goals from Ray Warburton. Hackney again and Leeson made the game safe, before arguably the goal of the game from Espley in the final minute (missed by the camera) gave Strikeforce a consolation. It’s all on next week…….

Let’s Try Again v Not A Chance
With the end of the Monday league season in sight, this game could have been considered key in the fight for promotion. A win for Not A Chance would have seen them have a solid grip on second place, whilst Let’s Try Again needed the points to stay in touching distance of second spot.
Callum Wild opened the scoring early for Not A Chance, but the lead was surrendered quickly by an equaliser by Ryan Prestwich. Not A Chance managed to get back in front with a goal from Josh, but once again they couldn’t keep Jay Willingham’s 12th minute effort out. Goals from Aaron Collins and Phil Carroll saw the sides go into the break level.
The second half began like the first with opening goals exchanged – Conor Dolan’s 28th minute goal quickly cancelled out by Chris Priestly. Let’s Try Again managed to get their noses in front with second goals of the evening from both Jay Willingham and Conor Dolan. Callum Wild bagged his second of the night, but it was too late for Not A Chance as Jay Willingham grabbed his third goal of the night to end with a 7-5 win for Let’s Try again.

Strikeforce vs Woodleystone Raiders
Third plays fourth in the league in this one, with just one win separating the teams. Woodlystone were two up within the first 5 minutes of this match, but were quickly pegged back by goals from Mike Garratt and Chris Espley for Strikeforce to make it 2-2 within 10 minutes played. A manic 3 minutes of play saw 4 goals scored giving Woodleystone a 5-3 lead, with another added by Matty soon after. Mike Garrat got one back before the break for Strikeforce to go into the break 6-4 down.
The second half kicked off much where the first had ended, with a flurry of goals in the early stages. Chris Espley brought Strikeforce within one soon after the break, but the lead was once again taken to two goals after David scored Woodlystones 7th of the evening. Matty for Woodlystone and Mike Garratt for Strikeforce ensured the goals kept coming, but once again Woodleystone kicked on as Jake Shaw scored to open the lead to 3 goals. Mike Pinder scored his first of two goals 18 minutes into the second half, but the pressure from Woodleystone didnt let up as Sam Roberts scored once again to keep the lead intact. Mike Pinder popped up with his second, but it was just too late as Woodleystone ran out 10-8 winners to put pressure on the two teams ahead of them in the league.

Petr Cech Yourself vs Jeremy Cheadle
With Jeremy Cheadle looking good for promotion, you may have expect their game against 5th placed Petr Cech Yourself to be a walk in the park; however the lads from Petr Cech were having none of that and put in a bit of a show…
Jeremy Cheadle took the lead with goal a from Phil Monaghan, however it was Petr Cech Yourself who bagged the rest of the goals in the first half. Two strikes from Liam Smith and one from Jordan Milne saw them go into the break 3-1 up.
They managed a further three goals without response in the early stages of the second half with Wasim Akram (2) getting on the score sheet and Jordan Milne adding another to his total. Jake Roberts scored a second in the 9th minute after the break, but at 6-2 down was it too little, too late? Liam Mottram took it to 8-2 within a minute, but Jordan Pauls popped up quickly with Jeremy Cheadle’s third and final goal of the evening. Petr Cech weren’t quite finished there, a minute before time Wasim Akram got his third of the evening to round off a good win for Petr Cech.
