The snow arrived this week, but it did nothing to stop us from having another busy week as we continue to build back up from the festive slump. Apologies to the Monday teams, the review of those games will be updated over the weekend so keep an eye out!

LEAGUE NEWS

Our BRAND NEW THURSDAY EVENING 5-A-SIDE LEAGUE will be kicking off at Cheadle Town FC on 7th February, with a couple of spaces still available for new teams. If you want to give it a try, we will be hosting mini tournaments next Thursday, 31st January. Sort a team out, get yourselves registered, and come and give it a go.

Our NEW TUESDAY LEAGUE will be starting on 19th February, and we have spaces to fill to get that league back to capacity. The standard of the current teams involved is fairly even across the board, so there’s a very decent chance we may go with one big division for the new season. If the idea of a long season and a large variety of opposition appeals to you, this could be your night.

Our NEW MONDAY LEAGUE should also be starting at the back end of February / early March, but it’s getting pretty close to being full as it stands, so if you want to get involved you’ll have to get onto us pretty quickly.

Sunday and Wednesday have very little to offer at the minute, so stick to the other three nights we’ve currently got spaces and we’ll be able to get you started straightaway!

SUNDAY LEAGUE

With Whoppers missing again this week, Gangs Of Dwight Yorke had the chance to close the gap at the top if they could see off Bangers & Pash. It looked like a tricky task early on as Bangers raced into a three goal lead with two goals from Rhys Clooney and one from Zach Widdowson. Gangs awoke from their slumber and scored three of their own in 5 minutes to send us into the break level, Demell Cumberbatch with a double and Chris Singleton their third. Clooney edged Bangers back in front just after the break, but two more from Cumberbatch and a Simon Hackney goal in the space of three minutes put Gangs in front for the first time. Clooney reduced that lead to one with 14 minutes left, but Gangs continued to score in bunches and added three more, another double for Cumberbatch and Hackney adding his second before an own goal in the dying seconds gave Bangers a consolation.

GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE 9 BANGERS & PASH 6

MOM: DEMELL CUMBERBATCH (GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE)

Beercalona bounced back well after their hammering against Gangs with a win over Eagles last week, and faced a Kipsta Cobras team who were back for a second straight week with some new recruits. One of those new recruits, Rob Cresswell, got their second after Connor Atkinson had given them an early lead, as they went into the break two goals to the good. On a frustrating evening for Beercalona, they couldn’t find a way through after the break, and a disastrous own goal sealed a second straight win for Kipsta.

With Sevilla absent this week due to illness in the Polish Army ranks, Nice Buns had the chance to go top of the Championship pile if they could pick up a win over Step Brothers. It was the Brothers who hit the front early with two magical Chris Moore finishes, but Buns roared back in the final 15 of the opening half as Paul Cheetham grabbed a hat trick and Charlie Williamson two to give them a three goal half time lead. The Brothers also started the second half better, as Dom Cioffi reduced the lead to two early on, but by the time he scored again with 7 minutes to play, three more goals from Williamson had taken the game away from them, and Jimmy Williamson wrapped up the victory with a goal in the final minute. If that’s actually who scored the goals…….

STEP BROTHERS 4 NICE BUNS B 9

MOM: CHARLIE WILLIAMSON (NICE BUNS B)

The McMuffin Men were back with a 7 man squad for a second straight week after their recent struggles, and flew out of the blocks against FC AOTS this week with Mark Bailey scoring three, Sam Delgado two and debutant Kyle Thomason grabbing the other as they lead 6-3 at the interval, Paul Buckley getting two and Tom Sheekey one in reply for AOTS. The McMuffin lead was extended by Bailey’s 4th in the opening minute of the second half, but AOTS hit back as Buckley got his third, Sheekey his second and Eoghan Scott a brace as they pulled themselves level. They couldn’t complete a turnaround though as Thomason grabbed two more in the final 10 minutes to give McMuffin Men their first win of the campaign.

Fat Boys Run Wild are looking to lead the way heading into the halfway split in the League One table, and would have been expecting a comfortable three points against struggling CA FC this week. They were a player short this week, and went a goal down when Lorenzo Rodriguez gave CA a 9th minute lead. They quickly turned things around though as Jamie Kealy scored three and Matt Kealy got another as they headed towards the break with a three goal lead. Rodriguez got his second just before the break to give CA hope going into the second half, but Fat Boys were always in control and second half doubles from Aaron Donville and Ryan McAndrew, along with Curt Rothwell’s finish eased them to victory, with Jonny Barton also grabbing two and David Hughes a late consolation for CA.

MOM:AARON DONVILLE (FAT BOYS RUN WILD) 

Deportivo struggled to field a side again this week, but with a little help they managed it as they looked to join this week’s opponents The Veterans on 9 points in the fight to stay in the top half of the table. A tight first half saw the teams go into the break all square as Simon Grainger and Andy Carrington scored to pull The Veterans level after Mike Devitt had twice given Deportivo the lead. Two more from Grainger and one each from Carrington and Paul Atherton gave The Vets a three goal lead with a Jay Berrisford reply for Deportivo in between. Deportivo had a go at trying to get something from this in the final 10, but despite two more goals from Devitt and an own goal, The Veterans picked up the win with goals from Atherton and Grainger.

Inter Your Sister have been on the up of late, while Team Tom’s one match winning run came to an end against The Veterans last week. This was Ballers first ever 4.30pm kick off, and it seemed to catch some of the Inter players out as the Tommers raced into a 5-1 half time lead, three goals from Chris Philpott and one each for Aaron Crook and Carl Carter, with a solitary Brandon Byers-Wilkes goal in reply for Inter, who displayed a lack of fight in the opening period…… Aaron Buczko, who scored all 4 against SK Six a couple of weeks ago, turned up for the second half and fired in another 6 as Team Tom strolled to a second win of the season. Liam Bancroft and Philpott added their other goals in the second half, with Craig Johnson scoring two, Byers-Wilkes, Scott Norris and Danny Robinshaw with the others on a disappointing night for Inter.

SK Six and Roman FC were both looking for a second win of the campaign when they faced off this week, and in a very tight first half it was just a Harry Bridge goal 5 minutes from the break that gave SK the half time edge. Bridge’s second two minutes after the restart, put SK in control, and the result was out of doubt when Steve Blunsten added to an own goal to make it 4-0 with 10 minutes left. Henry Cooke got the final goal with two minutes remaining to send SK into the top half of the table for pretty much the first time.

4 teams played out the first game of our new mini league as we have teams waiting for spaces in our re-expanding Sunday league. Team Sabri had a tough opening night as a brand new team against the experienced FC Stront Bakken, with Rida’s goal, two minutes from the end of the game, denying Stront Bakken a clean sheet as 5 goals from Lukas Voveris, 4 from Ryan Stringer and one from Dylan Marginarisa gave Stront Bakken a comfortable start. A few weeks to get themselves organised and we’re sure Team Sabri will be just fine.

Pathetico Madrid and Rooneytunes also made their Ballers return this week, and theirs was a much more competitive match up. Rooneytunes twice came back to go into the break all square at 2-2, with Josh Borthwick scoring twice after Carl Reynolds and James Norton had given Pathetico the lead. Chris Sinclair put Rooney in front for the first time early in the second half, but Adam Norton quickly drew Pathetico level again. An own goal and two more from Borthwick looked to have given Rooney the win, but they were made to sweat when Reynolds got two more in the final few minutes, but they held on for the win.

MONDAY LEAGUE

Finally…… Giant slayers Grand Street Wanderers looked to keep their recent impressive run going back in the Championship against promotion hopefuls Nice Buns, but it was Buns who hit the front inside the opening 10 minutes as Jimmy Williamson struck the first goal. GSW hit back and went into the break level as Rob Morris got a 14th minute leveler, but they were behind again when Tom Hall got Buns second 5 minutes after the restart. Paul Cheetham and Tom Dempsey quickly added to that lead and Buns were able to see out the final 10 minutes as Grand Street couldn’t find another way past Buns ‘keeper Dale Kirkham, who picked up the MOTM award.

Diva Fever continue to lead the way in the Championship going into this week’s games, and they took early control of their game with Ruby Kazam as goals from Lewis Arden, Joe Dodd and Shane Bridges gave them a 3-0 half time advantage. Things didn’t get much better for Ruby in the second period as Diva continued to find the net on a regular occurrence. Mike Devitt and Bridges added two more, with Dodd getting his second to put Diva 8 goals to the good. They were denied a clean sheet by Josh Welsh’s last minute consolation, but they look good for a return to the Premiership for the new season.

The new Pathetico Madrid were back for a second game this week, and on paper it was another tough one against Phantom Brazilians. The first half was fairly even, with the quality of the finishing the major difference as Pathetico went into the break 4-0 up as Joe Knight’s three were added to by Shane Hammonds one.Knight made it 5 just after the break, and though Andrew Shaw pulled one back for Phantom, Pathetico quickly pulled away as Knight, Hammon and Alex Whelan all added doubles and Ben Watts another, with Matt Holbrook grabbing a couple of late consolations for Phantom, who will be looking forward to a season back in the Championship.

Expected Toulouse were without a league opposition this week, but a competitive friendly awaited them against a combination of players from Morning Glory and Insole. Ryan Dolan got 4 goals in the first half as Toulouse carried a two goal lead into the break, Jack Grundy got their other goal with Jack Beswick, Connor Atkinson and Scott Norris getting the replies. Kurtes Curran pulled another back from the kick off at the start of the second half, but Toulouse were always able to stay one step ahead, and 5 different scorers ensured they ran out 10-7 winners. Grundy, Dolan, Joe Roche, Wasim Akram and Liam Mottram got their goals, with two more from Atkinson and another from Norris not enough to give the scratch team anything from this one.

Monday Night Albion continue to strive for a regular starting line up, and faced the brand new Athletico Pathetico this week. The still more experienced Albion were in control at the break as Gaz Marsh got two, Peter Bushell three and Raymond Wyatt the other as they lead 6-1, with Chris Sinclair’s solitary reply for the new boys. The second period was better for the new team as they settled into Ballers life, and they won the half as Jake Smallwood, Sean O’Kane, Wayne Hartigan and Sinclair all scored, with William Hemmings and Andy Ingleson scoring the only second half Albion goals.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The snow arrived this week, but it didn’t stop us from getting a few games on as we approach the end of the current Tuesday league season. FC AOTS put up a good fight against Bandit last week, so would have expected a bounce back win over struggling FC. After taking an early two goal lead thanks to goals from Tom Sheekey and Adam Atherton, AOTS fell apart as Nicky Thirkill scored 4 to give FC a two goal lead at the break. The teams shared 4 goals in the early stages of the second period as Kibs and Charley Hutchinson kept AOTS within two despite Nicky and Phil’s goals for FC. FC looked to have it wrapped up when they went 5 up with 10 to play as Nicky got his 6th to add to two goals from Mark. AOTS closed to within two again as Kibs, Atherton and Hutchinson all scored within 5 minutes, but two more Hutchinson goals weren’t enough to give AOTS anything from this one as Ryan added two more and Phil has second to give FC an impressive win.

Michu At De Gea Ba finally got their first win over Championship opposition last week and were looking to make it back to back wins against Ballotellitubbies. It looked to be all but done by half time as Adam Porter and Fidelis Eberegbe scored either side of a Ryan Greenwood double to send Michu into the break 4-0 up. Ballo made a fight of it in the second half, and halved the deficit thanks to two goals from Chris Reeves, but Michael Jennison ensured their would be no late shock with Michu’s 5th 5 minutes from time. Jason Higginson scored a late third for Ballo, but they slip to another defeat.

New boys Leve FC joined us this week, and faced the toughest of opening night’s against leaders Bandit Athletic. They held their own in the opening stages as Callum quickly leveled up after Ray Donnelly’s early Bandit opener, but the more experienced team took control as the half went on and lead 5-1 at the break with two goals from Michael Winn and one each from Kyle Clarke and Connor Atkinson. The Leve lads remained competitive in the second period, with Callum scoring two more and Jon and Mike getting their names on the score sheet, but Bandit ran out comfortable winners, with braces all around for Donnelly, Winn and Kurtes Curran completing the scoring.

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Wellspring were looking to maintain their 100% start to the season against a newly kitted out Out Of Shape FC. They held a three goal lead at the break as Lewis Arden got two, Mike Devitt and Joe Dodd the other, with Karol’s reply on the stroke of half time giving Shape a hint of hope. Milosz Zawila got their second two minutes after the restart, but that’s about as close as they go as Arden added three more, Devitt two and Mike Cocks the other as they ran out 11-6 winners, with Tomek Trepka grabbing three and Zawila his second in reply.

Stockport Eagles remained second going into this week’s games, despite defeat last week, but they got back on the horse early doors in this one as Paul Waugh, Ben Waugh and Ray Donnelly gave them an early three goal lead against Exeter Gently. Kristian Igo pulled one back hLf way through the period, but Ryan McAndrew made it 4-1 11 minutes before the break. Rob Milarvie made it a two goal game before half time, but Eagles killed the game off with goals from Ben Waugh and Donnelly before a couple more Igo goals with 5 minutes left were too little, too late for Exeter.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 4 EXETER GENTLY 4

This might be the last week for now for Unprotected Cesc, as the struggle for players has hit home, but they looked to go out on a high against a Rhino Ket team, still looking for their first points since their return. It looked like it could happen this week, as Jon Shipman and Louis Moore gave them a 2-1 lead after 6 minutes, with Kurtes Curran having briefly leveled up for Cesc. Cesc took control as the half went on, and two more from Curran and one each from Matthew Atkinson and Mike Pentland gave them a 5-2 lad before Jon Shipman reduced that with a goal on the stroke of half time. There was no second half comeback though, as Cesc added goals from Atkinson, Pentland, Danny Muprhy and two from Josh Armitage to ease them to a comfortable victory.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

With Whoppers and Gangs not playing this week, the remaining 4 Premiership teams looked to close the gap in what is a probably ‘race’ for third place. Beercalona were hammered by Gangs last week, but they got off to a decent start this week when Luke Warburton gave them a first minute lead against Stockport Eagles. This had the makings of a close game and Eagles fought back twice to go in level at 2-2 at the break with Ben Waugh and Michael Winn scoring either side of Jay Ratcliffe’s 21st minute goal. a frantic start to the second period saw 5 goals in the first 8 minutes as goals from Ryan McAndrew and Waugh for Eagles were clawed back each time by goals from Tom Ratcliffe and Warburton, before Warburton’s third put them back in front. Tom Ratcliffe’s second with 15 to play opened up a two goal lead for the first time in Beercalona’s favour, before Warburton’s 4th 8 minutes from time sealed the win.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 4 BEERCALONA 7

It’s been a season of struggle just to field a team for Kipsta Cobras this time around, but they were here and ready to take on a Bangers & Pash team who could go second with a win. Another tight first half saw Kipsta recover from Chris Carroll’s 7th minute opener to lead through two goals in a minute from Mike Pinder and Kieran Mills, before an own goal meant we went in level at the break. Carroll gave Bangers an early lead again in the second half, but again a quickfire double from Pinder and James Radcliffe turned things in Kipsta’s favour. Alex Fowell looked to have rescued a point for Bangers three minutes from time, but Kipsta nicked it in the dying seconds through Mills second of the game to give Kipsta a first win of the season.

KIPSTA COBRAS 5 BANGERS & PASH 4

MOM: KIERAN MILLS (KIPSTA COBRAS)

Just a few weeks ago Sevilla Lacatalent were begging to drop into the bottom division as they were struggling, but they went into this week’s round of games top of the Championship and staring promotion to the Premiership in the face. They got off to a good start against FC AOTS this week as Daniel Ward and Tom Jackson gave them a two goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes, before Adam Atherton halved the deficit just before half time. A burst of three goals in 4 minutes left Sevilla 4 goals up with 12 minutes left, as Jake Riley got two before an own goal made it 5-1. Kibs pulled one back for AOTS, but Sevilla kept them at arms length with Jackson scoring two more either side of an Adam Duty goal for AOTS as Sevilla pick up a fairly comfortable looking victory.

Another team who are hopefully back for a run after a dodgy spell are McMuffin Men, who were looking to derail Nice Buns promotion push this week. Another game with all the makings of a close one saw Buns narrowly lead 2-1 at the break with Jimmy Williamson and Sean Cope twice putting them in front after Mark Bailey had leveled things up. McMuffin started the second half the stronger and were level with 16 minutes left as Sam Delgado finished, but they weren’t able to pick up their first point of the season as Tom Dempsey and Dale Kirkham scored in the final 10 minutes to give Nice Buns their 4th win of the season.

A full house of Championship games were completed by Step Brothers clash with Polish Army, with the first half action squeezed into 5 minutes as Polish Army turned a one goal deficit into a 2-1 lead with Sebastian and Pawel getting their goals after a magic finish from Chris Moore had put the Brotherhood on front. Moore got his second a minute after the restart to level things up again, but it was the Poles who took control with goals from Sebastian, Grzegorz and Filip, with Moore keeping Brothers in touch with his third 12 minutes from time. He scored again to keep Step Brothers in touch after Mateusz had briefly restored Poles three goal lead, but two goals in the final three minutes from Pawel and Sebastian eased the Army to their second win of the season.

Fat Boys Run Wild are looking to lead the way at the halfway point of the League One season, and if they wanted to stay ahead of the chasing pack they needed to pick up a win over SK Six. Aaron Donville gave them an early lead, but Max Blunsten’s equiliser meant that we looked like heading into the break all square. Donville’s second of the game just before half time gave Fay Boys the advantage, and they eased to victory as Michael Winn and Jamie Kealy scored in the final 10 minutes to give them a far from comfortable victory.

The Veterans remain the closest contenders for top spot at the split, but technically Team Tom had a 100% record to defend heading into this week’s clash The Tommers have only actually played one game, and their ‘run’ looked to be ending as they trailed 3-0 at the break with two goals from Chris Murray either side of a Mike Devitt strike. Simon Grainger made it 4 just after the restart, and though Aaron Crook pulled one back with 20 minutes still to play, Murray’s third and Grainger’s second in the final 10 minutes gave The Veterans a comfortable victory.

A rejuvenated Inter Your Sister would have been heavy favourites going into this week’s game with Roman FC, but things don’t always go to plan and they found themselves two down inside 20 minutes as Brandon Daisley and Jamie Capper gave Roman a shock advantage at the break. Craig Johnson got Inter on the board a minute after the restart, and they turned the game on it’s head with thre goals in 4 mintes from Dave Smythe, Leigh Edwards and Brandon Byers-Wilkes. Edwards second clinched the win, with Capper’s second with 5 minutes to go just a consolation for Roman.

MOM: JOSH ALLEN (ROMAN FC)

A stronger lookind FC Stront Bakken squad were back for a second week, and set about making it a long night for CA FC as they went 3-0 up in the opening 11 minutes as Ryan Stringer, Shaun Jemison and Dan White all got on the board. Jonny Barton pulled one back for CA, but it was 4-1 by the break as Stronger got his second in the 23rd minute. The second half provided a steady stream of goals, all into the one net as Jemison and Stringer got two each, White another and Benjamin Dean the final goal having come out of net for the final few minutes, having saved a penalty earlier in the game. He’d never forgive us if we didn’t mention that…..

MOM: RYAN STRINGER (FC STRONT BAKKEN)

MONDAY LEAGUE

Fresh off the back of damaging Netsi & Chill’s Premiership title hopes last week, Grand Street Wanderers were looking to do the same again against Expected Toulouse. Toulouse were made aware of how tough the job was going to be as they went 3-1 down in the opening 12 minutes as Jay Bebbington, Joe Bowden and Matthew Moores got the GSW goals, with Ryan Dolan briefly having leveled things up after the opener. Toulouse dragged themselves level before the break as Jordan Milne scored two in the final 7 minutes of the half, but GSW took control again after the break as a freak own goal and Rob Morris’ finish opened up a two goal lead again. Dolan’s second kept Toulouse in touch, but Bebbington matched him in the scoring charts to keep GSW at arms length. Milne’s third with 10 to play meant we were in for a frantic finish, but Bebbington’s third, 4 minutes later, ended Toulouse’s hopes, and put Netsix back in control of the destiny of the Premiership title.

MOM: JAY BEBBINGTON (GRAND STREET WANDERERS)

Nice Buns and Netsix have become very familiar over the past 12 months, but hadn’t played each other for a while since Netsix went up a level, but Buns could do damage to Netsix Premiership title hopes if they could deny them a win this week. Netsix edged a close first half as James Bamgbose strike in the final minute of the half saw them go into the break 3-1 up after Charlie Williamson had leveled up for Buns after Jimmy Leeson’s early opener, with Mike Pinder edging Netsix back in front. Leeson’s second opened up a three goal lead 6 minutes after the break, but Jimmy Williamson kept Buns in the running with a goal two minutes later. Goals in quick succession from Pinder and Matty Aked took the game away from Buns, and Mike Pentland added a 7th in the final minute to take Netsix level on points with Toulouse with a game in hand.

MOM: JIMMY LEESON (NETSIX & CHILL)

We won’t dwell on this one too much….. Monday Night Albion had another couple of new players in their team for this week’s game with Phantom Brazilians, and they just about managed to hold out for the first 15 minutes before 4 goals in the final 10 minutes, two from Daniel Clayton and one each from Matt Barton and Andrew Shaw, saw Phantom go into the break 4-0 up. The lack of fitness kicked in for the Albion players in the second period as Paul Wilkins scored 4, Ryan Clayton three, Shaw two and Daniel Clayton the other as they ran out 14-1 winners, with the solitary (ahem) consolation for the Albion.

MOM: DANIEL CLAYTON (PHANTOM BRAZILIANS)

We welcomed new boys Pathetico Madrid (not THAT one) to the Monday league this week for the first of hopefully many games, and it became evident quite early on that we had picked a good first game for them against Diva Fever. A goal late in the first half from Shane Bridges, his second of the half, ensured that Diva only trailed by one at the break after two goals from Joe and one from Ben (first names only for now) gave Pathetico a slight advantage at the break. The game turned in a three minute spell early in the second half where Diva three to turn the deficit into a two goal lead, Bridges with two more and Lewis Arden the other. Arden’s second half way through the period seemed to have confirmed the win for Diva, but Shane kept Pathetico in it with a goal two minutes later. Arden’s third, three minutes from time meant there was no way back this time for Pathetico, but Joe did complete his hat trick before Bridges capped the win for Diva in the final seconds.

MOM:SHANE BRIDGES (DIVA FEVER)

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The last time FC AOTS and Bandit Athletic met, it was a walkover 9-0 win for Bandit as they started their march towards the Championship title, but this time around was an entirely different proposition as AOTS went into the break 2-1 up after Eoghan Scott and Kibs (who’s real name we might find out one day) turned it around after Ray Donnelly had given Bandit an early lead. They didn’t hold onto that lead long after the restart as Kyle Clarke leveled two minutes in, and Bandit looked in control when Donnelly and Connor Atkinson scored within a minute half way through the period. AOTS hit back with two quick goals of their own through Charley Hutchinson and Scott sent us into the final 8 minutes at 4-4. Atkinson put Bandit back in front with 6 remaining, and AOTS resistance was broken as Donnelly and Bailey Carroll added a couple more in the final few minutes to ease Bandit to a hard fought win in a very good game.

MOM: KYLE CLARKE (BANDIT ATHLETIC)

The new look FC were back this week, with a pretty tough looking task against Michu At De Gea Ba in front of them, but they held their own in the opening period as Nicky Thirkill’s goal just before the break meant they trailed 3-2 at half time. Ryan Greenwood had given Michu an early two goal lead, and Adam Porter had restored that two goal lead after Mark had pulled one back for FC. The story so far for FC reads, ‘competitive in the first half, collapse in the second,’ and that’s what happened again this week as Greenwood added three more, Porter and Paul Rice two apiece, and Jack Jennison the other as Michu won the second half 9-0. The extra fitness of a settled team playing every week and things could quickly turn around for FC in the future.

MOM:RYAN GREENWOOD (MICHU AT DE GEA BA)

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

Wellspring were looking to make it three wins from three to start their title defence, but faced last season’s runners up Exeter Gently this week. They took early control through a Mike Devitt brace in the opening 6 minutes. Rob Milarvie pulled one back on 14 minutes, but Lewis Arden restored the Wellspring two goal lead a minute later. Devitt’s third made it 4-1 5 minutes from the break, but an own goal on the stroke of half time kept Exeter in contention. Goals from Devitt and Shane Bridges looked to have secured the victory for Wellspring in the first 5 minutes af the second period, but two goals from Tom Wood meant there was two goals in it again with 10 minutes to go. Devitt’s 5th with three minutes left meant it was definitely over this time, meaning an Exeter goal from an unnamed man in the final minute meant very little.

MOM: MIKE DEVITT (WELLSPRING FC)

Stockport Eagles were the only other team looking to make it three wins on the spin to start the season, but faced the improving Unprotected Cesc in what looked like a tough one to call. Cesc edged the first half as two Scott Norris goals either side of Ray Donnelly’s leveler for Eagles saw Cesc hold a slender 2-1 lead at the break. Carl McEvoy put them two up 5 minutes into the second half, but Eagles hit back with two goals in three  from Paul Waugh to make it 3-3 heading into the final 10 minutes. Donnelly’s second looked to have completed the Eagles comeback with 6 minutes left, but Mike Pentland and McEvoy quickly struck for Cesc to give them a narrow win.

STOCKPORT EAGLES 4 UNPROTECTED CESC 5

MOM:SCOTT NORRIS (UNPROTECTED CESC)

FC Rhino Ket were hoping for better from their second game back with us after their hammering by Eagles last week, but they quickly fell behind to Tomasz Glebiowski’s first minute goal for Out Of Shape FC. Kurtes Curran drew Rhino level on 7 minutes, and Dave Peters put them in front half way through the period. Their lead lasted just a minute as Marcin quickly drew Shape level, and they lead by two at the break as Grzesiek Tkaczyk and Karol both scored in the final minute of the half. Milosz Zawila made it a three goal lead 6 minutes after the break, but Jon Shipman gave the Ketters hope with a goal 7 minutes from time. The hope was quickly extinguished as Karol got his second a minute later as Out Of Shape pick up their first win of the season.

LEAGUE NEWS

We are looking to get our THURSDAY 5-A-SIDE LEAGUE started at Cheadle Town over the next few weeks, starting with a mini tournament NEXT THURSDAY, 17th January. Spaces are limited so get in touch for details asap!

We’ve got our NEW MONDAY and TUESDAY leagues starting in the next few weeks, and spaces are available for new or returning teams (though those spaces are starting to run a little low in the Tuesday league…..)

We can always find space for new teams on our biggest league night, the SUNDAY league, as we have the availability of pitch spaces to add an extra division in. So even though the current league is full, there’s no harm in asking!

SUNDAY LEAGUE

With Whoppers absent this week, the rest had the chance to narrow the pretty big gap that’s been established. Gangs Of Dwight Yorke look the most likely challengers and faced Beercalona this week knowing a win would take them to within 6 points of the leaders with a game in hand. This looked highly likely in the first half as they went 5 up in the opening 16 minutes, Demell Cumberbatch with two, Callum Jones, Simon Hackney and Wayne Reeves with the others. Jay Ratcliffe got Beercalona on the board 6 minutes before the break, but it was by no means the start of a comeback as the wheels well and truly fell off for them in the second half. Cumberbatch and Hackney got 4 more each, Chris Singleton three, Reeves and Jones one each, with just the solitary Dave Seton(?) goal in reply for Beercalona who will quickly want to forget that this week happened……

BEERCALONA 2 GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE 18

MOM: DEMELL CUMBERBATCH (GANGS OF DWIGHT YORKE)

It’s going to take a major effort for either Stockport Eagles or Bangers & Pash to make a push for the top two this season following their recent squad changes, but a win for either team this week would see them join Gangs on 6 points. There was only one goal in the first half, Zach Widdowson giving Bangers the edge at the break, and they seemigly had the game won when Olly McDonagh’s goal with 14 minutes left was quickly followed by an own goal to make it 3-0. This is how the score remained going into the final 5 minutes, where Ryan McAndrew’s 47th minute goal looked to have done nothing more than ruin Bangers chances of a clean sheet. When Michael Winn scored a minute later Eagles had two minutes to snatch an unlikely point, and they did so thanks to Ben Waugh’s last ditch leveler. Eagles never give up, but Bangers will be kicking themselves.

MOM: OLLY MCDONAGH (BANGERS & PASH)

Sevilla Lacatalent were looking to make it 4 wins out of 4 to start their Championship promotion campaign, and faced Step Brothers in only their second game of the season. Their first was a narrow defeat, and this one looked likely to be just as close as Sevilla turned a two goal deficit into a 3-2 half time lead as Jake Riley’s double and Sam Melling’s strike turned things around after Chris Moore and Chris Sinclair had given Step Brothers the early advantage. Things turned back in the Brotherhood’s favour early in the second period as Sinclair and Josh Borthwick scored in the opening 5 minutes to give them the edge, but we were all square again with 18 to play as Melling got his second. Despite the best efforts of both teams, there were no more goals as Sevilla drop their first points of the season, while Step Brothers pick up their first.

STEP BROTHERS 4 SEVILLA LACATALENT 4

MOM: JAKE RILEY (SEVILLA LACATALENT)

Polish Army returned from their Christmas break with a game against FC AOTS that looked (as most games in this division do) too close to call. Paul Buckley and Steve Whittle gave AOTS an early two goal lead, but Bania quickly halved the deficit before Buckley restored the two goal lead with just 8 minutes on the clock. He scored again to keep them two clear after Filip had again reduced the AOTS lead, but there was only one goal in it at the break as Bania got his second 4 minutes from the whistle. There’s a slight possibilty that the festive excesses might have caught up with the Army in the second period, as AOTS ran away with it with three goals from Buckley, and two each from Adam Duty and Whittle, with just a late pair of Bania goals in response from the Poles.

With neither The Veterans or Deportivo Lack Of Talent playing this week, Fat Boys Run Wild had the chance to go three points clear at the top if they could beat Roman FC, who are still adapting to Ballers life and trying to nail down a settled squad. It all looked fairly straightforward for the promotion candidates in the first half as 4 goals from Curt Rothwell, two from Marcus Dean and one from Nicky Edards saw them lead 7-3 at the break, with Michael Winn scoring two and Kristian Anderson the other in reply for Roman. Dean and Edwards scored either side of a Bevan Hibbert goal to increase the Fat Boys lead to 5, but Roman won the second half as three late goals from Winn, against the one from Dean for Fat Boys was only enough to ensure a respectable final scoreline.

ROMAN FC 7 FAT BOYS RUN WILD 10

MOM: CURT ROTHWELL (FAT BOYS RUN WILD)

Stront Bakken were back this week, but it remains to be seen if they have a permanent league spot to go into. They took on Inter Your Sister this week who are in the process of rebuilding, but that process started well with a big win over Deportivo last week, and they lead 3-1 at the break thanks to goals from Chris Murray, Scott Norris and Craig Johnson, with Ryan Stringer grabbing Stront Bakken’s first goal on their return. Having got their team together at relatively short notice, with a couple of lads missing and no subs this week, it’s no surprise that the Bucket Boys fell away in the second half, with Leigh Edwards and Brandon Byers-Wilkes grabbing two, Dave Smythe, Johnson, Murray and Norris adding to an own goal as they ran out 12-3 winners, with Declan Matthews grabbing two in reply.

At one point we never thought we’d see Team Tom back with us, but they were here for their first game of the season this week against SK Six. New boy Aaron Buczko got their first goal on 4 minutes, and doubled their lead on 17, before Kane Jordan pulled one back for SK before the break. Buczko looked to have given The Tommers the points with two goals in three minutes half way through the second period, but Harry Bridge pulled one back with 5 minutes remaining, and they got another through Henry Cooke, but didn’t have chance to chase a leveler as this was the last kick of the game.

MOM: AARON BUCZKO (TEAM TOM)

MONDAY LEAGUE

Grand Street Wanderers had the look of a team who could throw a spanner in the works of the top division title race in these cross over weeks, as they have adapted well to Ballers life after the first few weeks, and this week they faced title favourites Netsix & Chill. They got off to a flyer as Paul Langan smashed them in front in the first minute, and after Matty Aked levled things up rather fortunately in the 10th minute, the same two players exchanged goals to leave us at 2-2 7 minutes from the break. Langan added two more to his personal tally in the final 5 minutes of the half to put GSW in control, but as you can probably imagine, Netsix aren’t where they are for no reason and they hit back with goals from Aaron Campbell and James Bamgbose to make it 4-4 half way through the second period. Langan’s 5th of the game with 7 minutes remaining put GSW in front for the 4th time, and this time there was no coming back as Joe Bowden sealed victory in the last minute.

GRAND STREET WANDERERS 6 NETSIX & CHILL 4

MOM: PAUL LANGAN (GRAND STREET WANDERERS) 

Netsix slip meant that Expected Toulouse could make top spot theirs with a win over Phantom Brazilians. The last time these two met it was a very one sided affair, but the early signs were that this one was going to be a little tighter as Daniel Clayton leveled for Phantom after Jordan Milne had given Toulouse an early lead. It looked like we would still be level at the break until Liam Mottram edged Toulouse in front a minute from the whistle, and we headed into the final 15 minutes with just the one goal in it. Milne and Mottram scored two in three minutes to ensure the points would be heading the Expected way, and Mottram and Niall Hillen added the gloss before Clayton grabbed a late consolation for Phantom. Expected are three points clear of Netsix, who have a game in hand.

EXPECTED TOULOUSE 6 PHANTOM BRAZILIANS 2

MOM: JORDAN MILNE (EXPECTED TOULOUSE)

The Championship top two went haed to head this week this week, with Diva Fever having the chance to open up a 7 point lead if they could beat Nice Buns. An open first half saw three goals in the opening 7 minutes as Buns lead twice through Paul Cheetham and Jimmy Williamson, with Lewis Arden scoring for Diva in between. Tom Dempsey increased the Buns lead on 15 minutes, but Nathan Wilkinson pulled one back just two minutes later. Buns lead by two at the break as Williamson got his second, but it was game on again as Joe Dodd made it 4-3 with 16 minutes left. Tom Hall edged Buns towards victory with a goal 9 minutes from time, but they were hanging on when Wilkinson got his second 5 minutes from time. They managed to see the game out, and it’s now all to play for at the Championship summit.

TUESDAY LEAGUE

The remaining Premiership teams have been temporarily re-homed in the Championship as the Tuesday league approaches it’s conclusion, but both Michu At De Gea Ba and Beercalona were defeated on their first Championship appearances before Christmas. Michu had a tough one this week against league leaders Bandit Athletic, and were quickly two down as Michael Winn and Connor Atkinson got on the score sheet in the opening 16 minutes. Michu hit back before the break to take us in all square at half time, Paul Rice and Alex Brady with the goals, but Bandit took a firm grip on the game early in the second period. Atkinson got two more in the first 11 minutes of the period, either side of further goals from Dylan Feast and Kyle Clarke to put them 4 in front. Matt Barton reduced the arrears for Michu with 12 to play, but Atkinson completed the scoring late on to give Bandit an impressive win.

BANDIT ATHLETIC 7 MICHU AT DE GEA BA 3

MOM: RAY DONNELLY (BANDIT ATHLETIC)

The second of the Premiership teams, Beercalona, faced second placed Shaka, and again it was the top division side who were up against it early on as Rob Cresswell, James Radcliffe (2), Liam Paull and Jonny McAuley all scored to put Shaka 5 up just before the break. Tom Ratcliffe pulled one back on the stroke of half time, but Matthew Pownall and Paull both scored to increase the Shaka lead in the first 5 minutes of the second half. Scott Williams and Ratcliffe both scored to reduce the Shaka lead to 4 with 12 minutes still to play, but Pownall, Paull and McAuley all added to the Shaka tally in the final 8 minutes to give them a comfortable win.

SHAKA 10 BEERCALONA 3

MOM: LIAM PAULL (SHAKA)

FC AOTS faced a last minute patch up job in El Caliente, but it didn’t seem to negatively affect the mix ‘n’ match team in the first half as Nathan Wilkinson, Mike Devitt, Danny Murphy and Steve Sammons gave them the edge at the break with Adam Atherton grabbing a couple and Tom Dennerly the other for AOTS. Atherton briefly made the scoreline level in the second minute of the second half, but Fidelis Eberegbe restored Caliente’s lead a minute later. From here on in, the more settled team took control, and from the minute Atherton leveled things up with 19 minutes to play they were never behind again. Kibs put them in front with 5 minutes left, and Atherton got his 5th with a minute left to play to ease them to a hard fought victory.

FC AOTS 7 EL CALIENTE 5

The new look FC were back after a few issues towards the back end of last year, and they were facing the hit and miss Ballotellitubbies. Ballo lead 4-1 at the break after Dave Murphy, Jaden Heywood, Gary Peers and Stuart Barrignton had turned things around after Nicky Thirkill had given FC the lead. FC were first on the board again in the second half as Nicky Edwards pulled one back for them with 10 minutes left to play, but Murphy kept them at arms length with his second 5 minutes later. An own goal gave FC a glimmer of hope with 11 to play, but Murphy and Jason Higginson got two each in the final 10 minutes to give the scoreline a slightly flattering look.

FC 3 BALLOTELLITUBBIES 9

MOM: DAVE MURPHY (BALLOTELLITUBBIES)

WEDNESDAY LEAGUE

FC Rhino Ket made their Ballers return this week against the ever reliable Stockport Eagles, and they looked rusty from the start as two goals each from Ben Waugh, Ryan McAndrew and Mark Carruthers after a Michael Winn opener saw Eagles into the break with a 7-0 lead. They at least got off the mark in the second half, as Dave Peters and Jack Kerton got their first two goals since returning, but they did nothing to stop them from going in at the other end as Winn and McAndrew got two more, Waugh, Carruthers and Paul Waugh one each as Eagles started the new year with a comfortable win.

MOM: PAUL WAUGH (STOCKPORT EAGLES)

Unprotected Cesc had fun and games fielding a side this week, but the team they put out were involved in a competitive game with Out Of Shape FC, with Mike Pentland’s goal two minutes from the break the only goal of the opening half. They lost that lead in the opening minute of the second half as Tomasz Glebiowski made it 1-1, and Mariusz Koszla turned things right around with their second three minutes later. When Milosz Zawila scored with 16 minutes left to play they looked well in control, but Wes Hodkinson reduced the arrears 4 minutes later and we headed in to the final 10 minutes at 3-2. Pentland’s second 6 minutes from time made it all square again, and it was Cesc who nicked it with Danny Murphy’s last minute goal to give them their first win of the season.
